Cool bass, hydro dipping is the shizz! It depends on what you want @Captain Chaos
Hi Gloss, Satin, Flat....Polyurethane / Non Poly Finish?
Hi Gloss with a Poly, like that Ric above is probably the hardest....if you want to DIY, it's not to hard, but will take a some skill
Talk to everyone you can including the local paint people
Here's one I did that was Hydro Dipped with about about 3 coats of clear Poly......I didn't have that the skill to do this all by myself.....I needed a lot of help to get this finish

Not at all, I was very surprised at how NOT chunky it is. I'm a real fan of the 'modern C' necks. If it wasn't for the .25" difference in nut width I'd think it was almost a Jazz neck. Add in the satin finish on the neck and it's all good. I heard all sorts of stuff about wide chunky P necks but this one was a total surprise. Try one if you can. Added bonus, it's only 8.5 lbs.How is the neck on that? Chunky?

Yes, I like Black Jazz Basses.
Here's my black beauty. Trans-black. In the very near future I'll be slapping a fretless neck on, probably a Tony Franklin; though I'm keeping my eye open for a nice maple fretless.

Really like that last one...not the same old same old...freakin' sexy without a lot of bling.Ibanez Talman TMB-30 & TMB-100, and SRX2EX1... 3 out of 4 of my basses are black!

Thanks! I picked that one up recently online and luckily I found it to be in excellent condition for a 10 year old when it arrived. It's a 2007 Ibanez SRX2EX1..Really like that last one...not the same old same old...freakin' sexy without a lot of bling.

I fell for it so hard that then I searched out an SRX2EX2 (opposite colors) and I found a 2008 that is on its way to me..

I've seen a few other black ones for sale on eBay and Reverb over the past 1-2 weeks... ya know, if you got an itch! Lol!
Never thought about it, but I don't have many black instruments. I have a nice black baritone guitar, but you said basses, so... I have a new black bass, but the pictures of it, and some other basses, need editing... So, for the moment, this is what I got. The first one is an '87-'88 Kramer Forum III. It ain't much of a beauty - yet; but it's undergoing major customization at the moment. It will be one when it's finished. The next one is an '81 Kramer Duke Special. Beautiful? Well, you either love 'em, or you don't. I think it looks better in person, when you can see the contrast between the black and the shiny, shiny aluminum neck... The 3rd one? I'd be banished from every Rick owner's forum there is, if I said my '73 Rick 4001 was black; if it's a Rick, it's not black. It's Jetglo...
