Let's see those beautiful Black Basses

It depends on what you want @Captain Chaos

Hi Gloss, Satin, Flat....Polyurethane / Non Poly Finish?

Hi Gloss with a Poly, like that Ric above is probably the hardest....if you want to DIY, it's not to hard, but will take a some skill

Talk to everyone you can including the local paint people

Here's one I did that was Hydro Dipped with about about 3 coats of clear Poly......I didn't have that the skill to do this all by myself.....I needed a lot of help to get this finish

I’ve had a lot of black basses and still own a lot. The first was the very first bass that I ever bought brand new. It was in either 1989 or 1990 and was an Epiphone by Gibson Accu Bass. The irony is I just found this exact bass again and it’s getting shipped back out to me again this week. Next was my 1994 Ibanez SR 500 Soundgear bass. I still own it and it was my #1 bass from 1994-2010. I then bought a 1995 Ibanez SR 500 Soundgear bass a year later that was also black but I had it custom painted right after buying it. I still have it as well. I would then buy a black Ibanez AEB 10 acoustic bass. When I switched to Music Man, I have had 3. My 2010 BFR roasted neck Bongo 4H, my 2012 Stingray 4H, and my 2013 Stingray 5H. Then, I just had Killer B Guitars build me a black P bass.

Here are the pics of my black basses.

How is the neck on that? Chunky?
Not at all, I was very surprised at how NOT chunky it is. I'm a real fan of the 'modern C' necks. If it wasn't for the .25" difference in nut width I'd think it was almost a Jazz neck. Add in the satin finish on the neck and it's all good. I heard all sorts of stuff about wide chunky P necks but this one was a total surprise. Try one if you can. Added bonus, it's only 8.5 lbs.

Really like that last one...not the same old same old...freakin' sexy without a lot of bling.
Thanks! I picked that one up recently online and luckily I found it to be in excellent condition for a 10 year old when it arrived. It's a 2007 Ibanez SRX2EX1..

I fell for it so hard that then I searched out an SRX2EX2 (opposite colors) and I found a 2008 that is on its way to me..

I've seen a few other black ones for sale on eBay and Reverb over the past 1-2 weeks... ya know, if you got an itch! Lol!

Kramer F3.1.JPG Lefty Duke 4.JPG '73 Ric 4001-2.JPG Never thought about it, but I don't have many black instruments. I have a nice black baritone guitar, but you said basses, so... I have a new black bass, but the pictures of it, and some other basses, need editing... So, for the moment, this is what I got. The first one is an '87-'88 Kramer Forum III. It ain't much of a beauty - yet; but it's undergoing major customization at the moment. It will be one when it's finished. The next one is an '81 Kramer Duke Special. Beautiful? Well, you either love 'em, or you don't. I think it looks better in person, when you can see the contrast between the black and the shiny, shiny aluminum neck... The 3rd one? I'd be banished from every Rick owner's forum there is, if I said my '73 Rick 4001 was black; if it's a Rick, it's not black. It's Jetglo...
