Having just scanned the whole thread so far, I've got to say, despite being predisposed to like fretless, unlined, ebony 'boards, some of the nicest basses here are the P's (and P-alikes) with black or tort 'guard and rosewood fretted necks. Especially with a bit of added chrome (Yamaha control plate, Fender ashtrays). If your bass fits that's description, and I didn't 'like' your post, consider yourself 'liked'.

Here's my black beauty. Trans-black. In the very near future I'll be slapping a fretless neck on, probably a Tony Franklin; though I'm keeping my eye open for a nice maple fretless.

Black-white-black, I hope? I think a black pickgaurd on a black bass looks great, but I think the little bit of visual interest from a 3-ply pickguard takes things up a level.

My MIM fretless conversion. I did the conversion myself, removed the fretboardand installed Macasar Ebony fingerboard.

Quick & dirty pic of my black beauties. Jazz is a 2000' sumpin I purchased from a San Diego bassist, pickguard and pickup change, great growly Jazz tone.
The P is a Ebay parts build, basswood body, Jazz neck, ultra light, has a nice midrange tightness, the ubiquitous EMG GZR pickup, looooove it!

Suggestions:

1) Tapewound Strings

2) Black anodised frets and black M.O.P. dots or

3) Convert to fretless, ebony board, no lines or black lines.

Ha, thank you sir. It does have an ebony board now, however I wish it were more darkish-black! Even my wife wants me to get black strings......(Had black, coated strings years ago on my black Roscoe Century but didn't like the feel under my fingers, too sticky). Rock on!
