It’s an ‘84 SQ series Squier Bullet. It was an Ebay auction quite a few years ago. Dodgy pics at best, but was described as being in “like new, a few little marks, perfect intonation, etc.”....and it was cheap. The bass arrived with about 10-12 nice dings and scratches that were touched-up poorly with a paint pen or something. The “perfect intonation” was surely do the the fact that it had two G strings and no D....but the neck was absolute perfection. After the smoke cleared it ended-up being a $100 bass.
I had always planned to swap out the pickup/electronics(these aren’t good, IMO). I was also pretty frustrated with the bodies paint situation, that kind of dictated the direction it went. I stripped the heck out of it over the course of a few months, the body pretty much lived out in the yard. I decided I was going to put in a pair of SCPB pickups I had around. I gave a friend a template for a pickguard that he ended up doing out of old street sign. I played it like this for a couple years(see above).
Eventually something drifted out of spec or went south, and while it still had a great grind, I couldn’t back it down and it pretty much became a one tricker. Recently I went back in with a single pickup and actually put knobs and such on it. It’s a bit more of a traditional sounding single coil P now, but it can still grind.
