They are great sounding and great playing basses...still don't like the pickguard shape after all these years, really throws off the aesthetic.

I agree about the aesthetic. But I more look at it as kind of a statement, "Yeah, I'm not as pretty as I COULD be, but I sound so good that IT DON'T MATTER!"

My MusicMan USA SUB Bass was a splatter coat black paint with a matte black pickguard so the pickguard did not detract from the looks.
But I have to agree, a good two-band StingRay sounds great in any genre of electric music.

I got two burst-finish basses. My T-40 in Sienna Burst is still my favorite, and the lighting in this pic doesn’t do it justice.

My frankenbass (a Pearl, as in the drum company, J-bass body and Fender MIM neck) is my other. The burst isn’t going to win any awards in this one.
