Let's see your Macbook Pro Bloated Batterys

You know, when I first got my Macbook (not pro), I thought it was the best thing ever. I could dual boot Windows XP and OS-X, and it's styled so nice, etc.

A year later, the thing has issues, and the arrogant little SOBs at the Mac store near me refused to replace the main board, even though they promised to do it 3x.

When I confronted one of them by phone, when he called to say that I could come pick it up, and that they hadn't replaced the defective motherboard, he HUNG UP ON ME.

The unit is now out of warranty, and has a bad mainboard, and flakey touchpad mousebutton. They actually had the cojones to call MY HOUSE, and ask if I wanted to extend the warranty another 2 years. I said "you refuse to fix it right under the current warranty...what? You want me to pay for two more years of customer abuse? You're high!"

While I have recommended Apple products in the past, I would NEVER again recommend anything from them to anyone...unless I really didn't like that person.

On second thought, I don't think I dislike anyone that much.

Wow, Have you tried to press the issue directly with Apple? I would do it even if warranty is out. Place I work at doesn't deal with macs all that much. I really wanted one, but now... I don't know...

Tell you the truth, I'm so soured on PCs right now, I could scream. Microsoft OS computers are no better (because of the software). I'll even go out on a limb, and say that Vista will be a dismal failure, and that this will be the very last OS release by MS.

I have seen the future. It is Linux...and before you roll your eyes, I suggest you try Ubuntu Linux. It's free, it's stable, and it even comes with a MS office compatible office suite, photo editing software, graphics software, CD burning software, games, and all kindsa cool stuff.

You can even dual-boot it with your MS Winblows.

I was having a terrible time installing XP onto my GF's IBM Lenova laptop...what a cluster****. After 3 days of hitting my head against the wall, I downloaded Ubuntu, and 15 minutes later, she was surfing the web. It found ALL the hardware (XP didn't), even the wireless config was automatic.

It's gonna kill Windows. Mark my words.

You can already order your new Dell system with Ubuntu preinstalled on it.

Watch the video on that page.

You heard it here first; Bill Gates is gonna need a new gig.

Take a wild guess what I've been running for past 10+ years. :)

My windows partition is 40gigs... my linux partition is ~260gigs :)

Ahhh. Good man. I'm not telling you anything new. I might tap you for tips.

I'm as green as they come with this. I literally have only a couple hours of seat time...AND I'm trying to migrate my web server over to Ubuntu.

I'm not too scared, because I have done command line stuff before - I started playing with PCs in the early 80s. Just about when DOS 4 came out.

I basically need to learn LAMP (Linux, Apache, My SQL, PHP...all installed nicely in one shot by Ubuntu), and something to handle Email. After that, PHP BB. I wish I wasn't suffering from PTSD. My head isn't what it used to be. Getting older doesn't help either...

:hmm:

That's what everyone says every time there is a new OS released. Nobody wanted to upgrade to 98 when it came out, or ME or NT when they came out, or XP when it came out... and hey presto, look now, nearly everyone running Windows is running XP.

Give Vista a few years.

Yeah, it's a ridiculous statement. Microsoft already has tentative plans to release the next OS in 2010 anyway.

Which, according to past performances, should put it at what? 2012?

I just think Vista is such a lame, shoddy rip-off of OS-X, it's ridiculous. I've been working with PCs for many years, and in fact, worked as a consultant for a number of years.

Like I said, I've been along for the ride since just before DOS 4 was released. I'm not an idiot. I know right where MS is, and I think they've gotten too big, too stupid, and too slow to keep up.

Hell, even OS-X sits on top of Linux. The new 1 laptop per child program? Runs Linux. Cars run it, set-top cable boxes, even smart refrigerators. The bulk of the Internet runs Linux. Ubuntu works pretty well. I'd put Linux at about Windows 3.0, in terms of development (which is, as you may [or may not] recall, just about when it started to really be usable)...only I see it gaining market share faster than anyone may anticipate.

You must remember that MS became everyone's default OS largely because Windows was the most pirated piece of software ever. Now, with authorization, that's not so easy, now...is it? Ubuntu is FREE, MS Office compatible, and IT WORKS.

Only time will tell, but I really think MS is heading for a fall.

Wait....

Wait...seriously?

ARE YOU REALLY THAT ****ING ********?

I mean... at first I thought you were just ignorant, but now I can see how absolutely ******** you are.

MAC OS X DOES NOT "SIT ON TOP OF LINUX."

MAC OS X was built off of FreeBSD, which is, in no way, linux. You would have to be completely ****ing ******** to think that it's linux.

Go shove your foot in your mouth and back slowly away from the keyboard.

Gee, I guess you don't know about the forums rules regarding flaming.

Yes, I know it's Free BSD. Free BSD is based on BSD UNIX. Linux is a...how should I put it nicely...derivative of UNIX, written originally by Linus Torvald while in college.

You can split hairs, but I don't really understand why all the hostility and name-calling. Having a bad day?

Only time will tell, but I really think MS is heading for a fall.

Just curious if you see MS falling in the home computing sector, the business sector, or both? Personally, I don't think the majority of home users would ever stray from MS, since it is what they learned on, it works fine for them (to their knowledge), and they do not have the time or desire to go through the learning curve of learning a new OS Interface. As for Business users, IT Departments would have to go through the same education curve with their users, some of whom might bright enough to pick up the operation of the new OS easily, but most users have a hard enough time trying to find where that attachment that they saved from their e-mail went to.
Most of the examples that you gave above that run Linux(Cars, set-top cable boxes, smart refrigerators, The bulk of the Internet) are devices that the normal end-user will never interface with. And as for the 1 laptop per child, are they using Linux on those laptops because it is superior to MS, or to keep the costs down?
My mother is a computer teacher in an Elementary school, and the school system that she teaches in runs Mac. She feels that it is not the best platform for the students to learn on, since every job that I have had has run MS. THe only interaction I have had with either Mac or Linux is on the side, for my own knowledge.

I think somebody needs a time-out.

:p

Karrot-x, I can see that you are passionate about your beliefs. However, I can't really tell what your beliefs are, besides the fact that you do not agree with Basshole. Just a suggestion, maybe not calling people ******** and explaining your thoughts would get your point across more efficiently, and people might take you seriously. Just an unsolicited suggestion.
