Let's see your Macbook Pro Bloated Batterys

Schools have traditionally used Macs because Apple has always been very generous with educational discounting.

I'm sure the 1 laptop per child program turned to Ubuntu because of costs...but also because of security concerns. MS is a huge target. The vast majority of viruses are written for MS products. They're the biggest target...and not really that well liked anymore...nobody likes a big bully, and they've been caught in various anti-competitive behaviors of late.

Brazil has vowed to move all government computers away from MS, and onto Linux.

Business, as you pointed out, are reluctant to move to something new, due to deployment costs, and learning curves...but realistically, hardware costs, and support costs are a big reality as well. Vista is a VERY hungry OS, and computers made literally just a couple years ago may not have the capacity to run it, without considerable hardware upgrades. One of the things that's so nice about Linux is that it's more efficient than even XP...let alone Vista.

If companies can defer the costs of upgrading thousands of computers, maybe the deployment costs of Linux are suddenly not so scary.

I see Apple taking more of a market share, based largely on the successes of their other consumer products, the iPods and the iPhone, which are many people's introduction to the Apple "experience"...but I also see Linux taking a bite out of Vista's potential market share, since its hardware requirements are far more modest, it's more stable, and more secure, and OH YEAH; FREE.

I could be wrong, but that's just my impression.

The hostility comes from idiots spewing malformed garbage on talkbass, ESPECIALLY regarding linux, unix, mac, and all other computer related ********.

Now...if you know Mac OSX is based off of FreeBSD and NOT linux; why would you say otherwise?

I mean...the equivalent is: Jaco Pastorius played a Lakland...because Lakland now makes a Fender spec jazz bass, 20 years later.

The logic is just absolutely WRONG. Please, PLEASE read what you type; then research everything before you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

I need a time-out like you need an enama.

Is that anything like an enema?

Breathe, son...breathe, feel yourself relaxing...

About the whole "FREE" thing which seems to appeal to you most. If Linux or any other freeware OS was as large as Windows or OSX, I doubt it would be free.

And I don't understand at all how Linux is a cheap rip-off of OSX. I mean, what's similar? 64 bit? :eyebrow: My dad's new HP laptop has Vista, and from the play that I've had with it I can say it feels nor looks nothing like OSX.

Because to most humans, who aren't as involved with or as stressed about computers as apparently you are, X is X.

It's non-Windows, and it's forward slash, and not backslash. The command sets are similar.

Frankly, if I had known it would cause you so much stress, anger and hate, I might have taken the time to be more explanative. It really seems to be super-important to you that I'm exacting in these terminologies. Maybe I should clear all my posts with you in the future?

Maybe you just need to relax, and stop spewing so much hate and anger.

They copied so many features...even the color schemes in a number of OS applets.

Free isn't my big attraction to Ubuntu Linux...but free is a big attraction to many, clearly. Or else Windows would not have been so widely pirated. The fact is, Ubuntu doesn't need to be pirated, because it's open-source...and precisely for that reason, a lot of developers are starting to write for it.

As it should be obvious, this is just my opinion, I could be wrong. According to Karrot-X, I'm an idiot, so please...take all that I say with a grain of salt.

Well, nothing really. It was all on-topic before Basshole when on his Ubuntu-Worship and Anti-MS rant.

Wow...OK. I guess I offended a few of you.

I certainly won't make the mistake of posting in your sandbox anymore, children. Sorry to have upset you all so much. You computer guys are kinda cute how you get all worked up about such things.

I'll bow out now, as I don't wish to engage in such hostile exchanges.

Bye bye.

Mine lost all charge completely and Apple sent me a new one free of charge.

Heh, same kinda thing happened with my Creative Zen Vision:M recently. All the power was sucked out of it, the USB cord couldn't charge it because they use "trickle charging". So I had to plug it into the wall with a Motorola phone charger (which conveniently uses the same adapter) and charge it for THREE DAYS until the screen could even turn on...

Was very seriously contemplating getting a replacement from Creative.

I am going to be calling Apple and see if they will replace it for me. It got so bad it was pushing up on the Keyboard and causing it to miss type... It took a few hours to figure out why... LOL

Wow, if they're willing to indulge you, you may want to have them look at your machine, and the charger too, just to make sure it's not overcharging the battery, and causing that.

I think we're going to get to the point around here where computer talk threads get moved to the Lobby, or are banned like politics.

Most of the computer threads around here eventually roll over into an argument between the "I hate MS, Macs are WAY better" guys, the "Linux is the best ever" guys, and those who like MS products. :rollno:
