Let's see your Rickenbackers!!

Ok. Since no one's posted this color (well, except for the above FLCL picture), I guess I should. I know that there's quite a few other people that have an Azureglo...

The finish is actually brighter than that. It's just I had to adjust for the poor amount of light in my room, which made it darker. This is when I first got it. Shortly after that I put the pickup cover on.

This and Burgundyglo are my favorite Ric colors.

What guy? If your talking about the characters, The robot in the back's Canti, The kid with the hat is Naota and the girl with the Ric is Haruko. If your talking about the artist whe did the picture, well that was done by Gainax Studios, so any number of people could have done various stages of this drawing. i highly recomend watching this series, it goes by three names, FLCL, Furi Curi or Fooly Cooly ... though it is a bit heavy for anyone new to anime.

Here's a 4003/S5 (5-string, discontinued model) in Midnight Blue. Hope you'll like it.

where can I get the upgrade pups at?

First of all, I wish I could post a pic of my '76 4001. It's similar to a Fireglo finish, but it goes from light brown to dark brown.
Okay, onto replacement pickups: I first had the Seymour Duncan direct replacement models installed in the mid 80's. At that time, I thought their sound was an improvement-more bottom end, less noise. They seemed cool at that time. In the mid 90's I bought the Bartolini D.R. models. IMO the Barts are an improvement over the Duncans. The Barts also have a bit more of a Ric-like tone. BUT, IMO, once I replaced the stock pickups, my bass no longer sounded like a Rick. To each his/her own. I'd like to put stock pickups back into my Ric-damn, I can't find 'em!

You wanna trade pickups? :D

B'aces High-

I don't know where in Ontario North Bay is, but a few weeks back I saw a pseudo-4080 for sale here in town. Someone had spliced together a 4001 or 4003, and a 480. Both mapleglo.

Bad points-
- the guitars varied in thickness slightly, so there is a bit of a ridge running down the back
- only half of it has white binding; the other half is unbound (although I didn't notice this at first because it is a wide body!).

Good points-
- I think 4080s are bolt-neck; on this the 400x bass is thru-neck
- it has an attractive combined pickguard, wood IIRC
- I think they were only asking $700
