you could always try contacting Rickenbacker and seeing if they can either make you a set of vintage pickup's or just order a set of modern stock pickups from them.

Actually the artist who did the picture was Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, the character designer for the show. He's also done character designs for "Neon Genesis Evangelion" and ".hack". There are quite a few "FLCL" images done by various GAINAX staff (a few done by the "FLCL" director, Kazuya Tsurumaki), but this one for sure was by Sadamoto. And yes, he did all stages of it.

And there's several names/interpretations for the title, but "FLCL," "Furi Kuri," and "Fooly Cooly" are the most well known. My favorite pronounciation people have said to me was "furry curry," which it totally off. :)

Anyway, I didn't know that Azureglo and Midnight Blue were the same color. I always thought the Midnight Blue looked darker, but since at times they looked pretty darn close, I guess that's right.

According to [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] they are two different colors, and were actually both offered in 1985. Also, on their chart, MB is lighter, although I don't know whether the chart is meant to be truly representative.

I perfer to say FLCL as opposed to the other two common ways of saying it, since i'm abel to articulate the L sound and the japanese aren't.

But i didn't know he did all stages of the drawing, i don't remember seeing any signatures or anything on it ... not that i'd have been able to read them since they'd probably be in japanese.

As for the colors, well i guess AzureGlo is lighter, i've been to a few sites that have had pictures of this thing in blue and it dose seem a bit darker, but it's the closest your going to get to that color unless rickenbacker feels like trying to recreate it for you which will probably cost you extra for them to remix a batch of azureglo for you.

Yeah. That's what I thought. Though I totally agree that most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two colors. There'd have to be a side by side comparison, I think.

The image you have is cropped. His signature is in the original image data I have, and funny enough he signs it in English. "YS," his initials.

FYI I worked on the US release of "FLCL," mainly on packaging and design. I'm always glad to see fans of the show pop up in various places because it's one of my favorites. And yes, part of the reason I picked Azureglo over Burgundyglo for my 4001 was because of "FLCL." I'm a dork that way. :)

Anyway enough thread hijacking. Let's see somemore Rics!

While I do not own a real Ricky I do happen to own several copies

I owned no less than four of them.

1. Jetglo made by Greco mid seventies. This one had all the attributes of a real rick, including the neck through construction. I modified it by putting in a Badass bridge and dimarzio pickups. in that guise it is now currently owned by a good friend of mine. Here I am playing it when still a member of Format Brain.

The second one of my fake Ricks is this Hondo in Fireglo. It has a lot of issues (if you look closely, you'll see that I replaced the bridge because the saddle was broken) I now have that one on display on my wall because it's not playable at all. It has a plywood body and the pickups sound really bad.
