This is my '76 Ampeg Portaflex B15N with late '60s JBL D140R 15' speaker) which is what I record with. I have used it live w/a good FOH, but these days only for recording. The Ashdown amps are my live 'go to' amps.

Very cool. Tempted - I have prototype Little Stubby... would make a nice set but pretty redundant. He has an early Drophead as well which really gets my gearlust going.

I mean, I like mine with the wood/vinyl housing just fine - but the 'lunch-box' vibe of that prototype is cool, like @Dynacord 's Little Stubby with Thermos coffee work-flask bumpy green finish.

Reviving this thread with a question.

I got a LB30 2.N in a trade through TB. What a great sounding amp! The subtle reactive overdrive you can get is perfection. I compared the amp overdrive characteristics to a MXR Sugar Drive - the LB is fuller - just has more heft - not that the audience would notice haha. - just sounds better to me.

Now the question. I’m experimenting with using the LB as a preamp driving into a 500 watt bass amp.

LB30 XLR Output into the effects return on Euphonic Audio amp - using XLR cable with one of those 1/4” adaptors (not very elegant). No load required for the LB30.

I’m hoping to achieve the tone of the LB30watts at 350/500 watts for a live band situation w/o having to bring a huge bass cabinet.

pls take a look at the photos and let me know if everything is connected correctly, or suggest a better way to do this. Thanks in advance.

I’ve done this and it works well as long as however you convert from xlr to 1/4 you don’t get noise/grounding issues.

I also made a setting in the two notes side that was a clean pass though, but still with a noise gate. Then you have the output level control to help balance the level going into the solid state amp and when you crank the lb the noise gate is helpful.

The nice thing is if the lb amp goes down you just switch to plugging into the power amp. The only disadvantage is more stuff to carry/connect.

Yeah it’s extra stuff to hook up. When did this with the captor before, I had everything (pedals, captor and ashdown ant) tied to my pedalboard and then just had to ensure I had the multiple cables between the amp and the board and the speaker. It worked but was easy to forget things.
