Let's talk Fuzz

My fave is currently the Bass Big Muff, only for the simple reason that it sounds awesome with an overdrive going into it with the BBM set to blend mode. I like to have layers to my gain, kick on the SFT for a bit of a boost, then add the Muff on top when things get heavy. This way there's less tap dancing going on, the blend retains some clarity and dynamics but without sounding like 2 separate sounds since I'm already feeding in a dirty signal. The gain boost also helps to give the BBM kick it needs to make it sound super heavy and saturated. I also added a feedback loop mod too, which sounds great on the Muff circuit.

Oh man the SFT + Bass Big Muff on blend sounds freaking fantastic! I have that combo on my board and the combination really sounds more than the sum of its parts. Total win.

I personally dig the electro-harmonix big muff pi. I always thought that pedal sounded pretty cool on bass. I know there are many kinds big muffs, but I dig the russian big muff and the bass big muff(since it's modeled after the russian big muff) because they have a really smooth sound and have have plenty of lows. that's the fuzz pedal I like on bass.

Honestly the bass big muff isn't that close to the old russian muff. There are much more faithful replicas out there. I'm personally a fan of the Musket, which sounds much closer to me

Muff.

That is all.

yar. i like the Swollen Pickle a lot. but adding the blend (i get that some people don't dig clean blends..... i LOVE THEM) with the PPB just made it a easy to dial in super monster.

i'd dry hump it if i wasn't afraid of squishing the pretty green little birdie. shhhhh..... shhhhhhhh..... don't be afraid. daddy's just talking some silly ****. 's ok. s' oooooookayyyyyyyyyyy......

I think that whether you like the Bass Big Muff kinda depends on how much you like lower gain muff sounds. I liked the grindy/fuzz you can get with it.

Musket was good for saturation and mids but for me I found it hard to dial in a classic muff tone without trying to tweak it too much. Great pedal, but I like the Bass Big Muff's vibe a bit more. EHX still have a something about all their products that no matter how much you improve it, it doesn't keep the vibe. Probably because everyone else uses better quality parts!

heh. yeah. that's the reason i don't really like/trust EHX. i've had like 5 or 6 of their pedals, and the Freeze is the only one that never did anything weird or completely crap out on me. i just don't trust their QC.

i like lower gain fuzzes as well as higher gain 'uns, grindy is awesome, just for me the BBM totally falls into the "sounds good in the bedroom, gets lost playing with others" realm of fuzzes. that's why i didna really enjoy the Musket too.

as always, IME, YMMV and all that.
