Levy's Leather Straps: 4.5" TOO Wide?!?

Doesn't bother me it's a non-issue, I can buy 3 of their straps for the price of 1 strap by other companies.

This one is my favorite-great leather and built really well, 3.5" wide. The best part is that you adjust the length of it on the "tail" with a buckle instead of that weird loop/slot system that so many leather straps have:

Full disclosure, I was in a band with the guy running this company for a few years and we are buds, but I payed full price for the strap. I'm proud of him, he's doing some really rad stuff.

Not dissing the Levys Leather staps, as I have a coupe and like them. However my preferred straps are USA made and are high quality.

Longhollow Leather. Between $40 to $50 for a good strap.

I buy them from Shoreline Music. Mail order from Colorado.

I dont think I would want a 4" wide (or wider) strap, even for my heavy Stingray 5

The Levy is my favourite strap, I use it with my main bass, a rather lightweight AVS '64 Jazz Bass. If it is for a heavy bass - I have a >10 lbd Jazz from 1978 - I would look for something like the Sandberg flex strap (neopren). Or the
Mono Cases The Betty Strap Short. I own the Sandberg, but the Mono looks just as good or better and is a bit less expensive.

I've had a leather strap about 3-3/8" wide for many many years. I just got an Italia 4" thick leather strap from another TB'er. I love it. He sold it because it was too wide. Any wider and I might think it's too wide..but at 4" I'm fine with it.

4-1/2" seems like it could be too wide. Depends on broad shoulders I guess, and how stiff it is. To me, 2-1/2" is too narrow, 3-1/2" is just about right and up to 4" is good.

I have this and it's a great strap. I also have the one in question. MSS90 is a higher quality strap but twice the price. Both are great. 4" is not an issue for me but I am broad shouldered (and tall and skinny).

My favorite strap is a 4" Moody.

Funny somehow I have everything but broad shoulders and not much body fat and I find wide straps very comfortable. I would rather guess that people with broad shoulders have less of a problem with narrow straps. If I use straps that are not wide and not padded they cut into my skin and soft muscles and bones like a knive. But who cares? Everyone should just try what is comfortable.

I was thinking a wider strap lays across a flatter shoulder area, I have traps that stick up a bit and shoulders are more curved but the strap isn't digging into my neck or shoulder anywhere.

It's so tough to find decent straps in local shops...all these little 2.5" ones!

Ok was changing the sheets on the bed, out my hand on the strap just to show the width

Sits great standing, soon enough though it will work itself in (like a baseball glove) to be more pliable when sitting.

I couldn't beat the price on this. Our local music shop (no GC here) is closing as the owner is retiring after 50 yrs (i mean I picked up 2 sets of elixirs for $22 together). I went in the first day of the sale and they only had the nylon guitar straps. Well a few days later I decided to check what was left and mentioned I was hunting for a 3 in or wider strap when the owner mentioned he thought he may have seen one hiding. Low and behold this baby ran me $30. Just waiting on the guitar prices to drop further and maybe I'll have some $$ to pick up and flip some
