LH500/BASSON 210B q's

Hey guys, my first post, please be gentle. so i have been playing bass (casually, no gigging, no heavy practice regimen) for about 4ish years, but i havent even really picked up my basd in about a year. main reason being laziness, and work schedual, but i like to tel my self that i am not motivated to play b/c i hate the way my gear sounds.
i am an tone-ophile and technology geek in my particular intrests. so... having a grown up job and all now i decided to purchase my first "loud" amp. i picked up a Hartke LH500 used at gc, and just purchased to cmpliment it, a Basson b210. up to this point all i have had is my 10watt 4" 90's yamaha combo (garbage!) i know the sounds i like, i know what i play and aspire to play (metal, ska, indie). made the head choice based on serendipidous testing oppertunity, and interwebs videos. bought the cab cuz i had a boner for the 810 version since i started playing! and snagged it for 150!
my questions are as follows:
1. the cab comes with casters; i do not gig, this is just for me in living room, will i be messing with the sound by removing the casters and sitting the cab directly on the floor? rubber feet mayhapse?
2. how loud is this thing really going to be capable of? i am assuming... VERY VERY!
3. anything to really watch out for amp ownership wise? obvs, don't spill drinks in/onto it, i don't have cats or destructive dogs, maintenance issues?
4. finally, if i decide in the future to change the preamp tube, seeing as how it is only a single stage, is it as simple as pull replace play? or do preamp tubes require biasing?

thanx in advance for any advice, great forum!

Swapping the tube isn't hard at all and requires no biasing as it's a preamp tube. Power tubes require biasing to control the amount of voltage that goes through them.

I had that amp years ago. It's a great amp that's very easy to dial in.

As far as casters go, maybe I'm getting old, but I appreciate casters on heavy cabs/amps. It could affect tone, but it probably won't be a big deal to leave them on.

i dont want to sound whiny, but the only reason i want to remove them, is because they look goofy under the thing lol. plus, again, im not gigging, i can move 100lb when i vacuum, i don't mind that, not moving the thing around stages or in and out of buildings. but if its going to screw with the sound then i dont' mind leaving them on. its silly really...
anyone else got any input? i am hoping for a nice clean, warm tone, i know for metal i need a lil more bite, but to me, for bass, that's what pedals are fore, specifically a boss eq and ehx bass blogger. faves!

Basson cabs aren't very efficient. My old metal band had an endorsement with them since they started up. The tone was good, but not worth the hassle of moving them. The 210 can get really loud, but you'll be using every bit of power from that LH500, when compared to more efficient cabs.

The tone can change setting the cab directly on the floor, but it isn't immediately good or bad, just different. Try it and see what sounds best for you.

Thanx for the feedback. Now for clarification, when you say not that efficient, use evry watt, am i understanding you correctly in that for example, with some other cab its likely that id only have to turn the volume to say 4 to get the same db levle that i can anticipate getting at say 6 with this basson cab? Just as a rough for instance? Also, i was kind if thinking this thing should be pretty damn loud compared to other typical 210s cuz its 4ohm. Where most are 8ohm and not fully utilizing the head. Am inon the wrong track?

Well, yes on both accounts.

It does take a lot of power to produce volume with these cabs. So, you're correct with what you're thinking.

Yes, it will push a lot of volume compared to other 210 cabs.

hey guys, another real quick noob to stacks question;
there are two 8ohm outputs on the back of this amp, obviously the minimum impedance for this head is 4 ohms, but if the cab i got is 4 ohms, is it ok to plug in to a single 8ohm output port? i am assuming yes, as this head doesn't have a bridge mode, so if i understand that correctly, each output is "8ohms" but the ports are wired together parallel, so either combination of two 8 ohm cabs in both ports or a single 4 ohm cab to either port equates to the same thing. yes? thanx in advance for the info and patience.

that what i figured, thanx a bunch the cab arrives at my local gc tomorrow. tomorrow is going to be the longest day at work! truthfully too, because i am making a bunch of simple production parts, literally pulling up my previous program and hitting the go button, my phone is going to be itchy in my pocket all day waiting to hear your cab is in" and then having the rest of a work day to not be playing it!

Yes, the answer above is correct. Further, ohms is a measure of resistance. You can usually always have more resistance, ie: 8,16,32 ohms for these kinds of applications, but not less than whatever the minimum Impedance is for the head, in this case, 4 ohms.

Ohms, resistance, Impedance= different words, same thing.
