Double Bass Life's Funny Sometimes

So, I live in a tiny little extremely rural village on the north shore of Maui; gas station, post office, little shopping center in an old cannery, and the rest is pretty much lush tropicalness on the edge of the Pacific Ocean. Tonight's a pretty typical night; I'll load up the bass and drive to the west side, to play at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, one of the most luxurious resorts in the world, and familiar to anyone who follows professional golf. The money is excellent, and life could not possibly be better. So what's the funny part?...

The funny part is, while I'm at the gig on the other side of this lovely isle, a small dance studio in the aforementioned shopping center will feature one of its occasional "Ebb And Flow" concerts. Tonight's guest is Mark Dresser in a solo performance. This place is a couple of minutes walk from my house; in fact, if I were going to be at home, I could hear him playing from across the gulch if I sat in my back yard.

Nope, I'm not whining at all. But I do think it's funny that one of the greatest bassists of our time is playing this little one-horse town, literally in my back yard, while I'm working. Ironic. If any of you TBers want to check it out, there's food in the fridge and some lawn chairs out back. :D

Nah, not so much. :smug:

This is a weird little town, though... you occasionally see famous folks passing through, avoiding the usual tourist areas. I regularly see volleyball uberbabe Gabrielle Reece shopping at our little store, and a couple of months ago, at the coffee shop, I ran into Tony Levin. :hmm:

C'mon....really...wouldn't you rather be in Eagle River at the bar, eatin' a brat and having people spilling beer on you and your bass? Maybe catch Gabriella at the local tackle shop.......eh? :smug:

Comin' home in July for a week, my folks are celebrating sixty years together. Can't wait!

It's all about the brats. I had to break down and grill some last week, even though it's not football season.
