Yes, the Blue Tube pedal (and rack version) has a 12AX7. Same goes for the Chandler Tube Driver, upon which the Blue Tube is based. I have both the Blue Tube and Tube Driver rack versions, and I really like these units. They are the best that I have heard for bass as far as a preamp-overdrive sound is concerned. But what BJ730 is asking for is an overdrive pedal that uses power tubes (e.g., EL34's) for overdrive. I don't know of any pedals that do this, but of course the SWR Interstellar Overdrive rack unit and numerous Warwick preamps/heads (all rackmount style) do use a combination of pre and power tubes to generate their overdriven tone. I own a Warwick Pro Tube IV, and while the power output section isn't quite as powerful as I like the overdrive from the 12AX7's and EL34's is really killer.

But again, those Tube Works & Chandler pedals are really pretty good (though I hear that certain models sound better than others - do some Googling to learn more). Another good route for 12AX7 based pedals is the Mesa Boogie line of preamp/overdrive pedals. I've used a rack version of the V-Twin preamp (which is made for guitar, but with some EQ help can be okay for bass - but it could use some more low end, still), and it showed great promise (though again, had some EQ issues).

Tom quick correction, the quadruplet and other warwick stuff along with the IOD use an EL84 to get power tube grind.

I still maintain that a stomp box ALA EHX tube series pedals, could use their existing power supply, one tube socket as a driver, and the other tube socket with a 9 pin wired in a single ended output circuit with a dummy load for power tube overdrive. Sure it wouldn't be like hooking up to a cranked SVT, but it would sound different from current offerings.

it has that weighty, fat tubey feel, but without the saggy, boomy bottom end. *shrug*

still, why not an Aguilar AG500? great amp w/ a sweet overdrive/distortion channel. :cool:
