Light Weight Tuning Machines, FSOs and Dead Spots

This is a survey of people's experiences with ultralight Hipshot or Gotoh Res-O-Lite tuning machines on Fender and FSO necks and presence or absence of dead spots.

I've read that ultralight tuning machines can beneficially eliminate or shift the position and mitigate dead spots on Fender type bass necks.

In my experience with two Fender AO necks ('60s Jazz and '50s P), one Warmoth J, one Nash PB-63, and one 1-pc maple fat maple P neck from Musikraft, 5 necks total, all of them equipped with Gotoh Res-O-Lite tuning machines, zero discernible dead spots.

It makes me wonder whether I've just been lucky, or maybe there really is something to this; thus the reason for this survey. I'm seeking to gather a larger sample size based on what others may have experienced in this regard.

Some necks have got it and some don't. I had a Fender Standard Jazz bass with dead spots not matter what I did while Fender Player Series P doesn't. That Jazz had the typical heavier tuners. None of my G&L basses have dead spots. I believe because the head stock drops down more than Fenders and do not seem to suffer those issues. I have had one bass in the past with no dead spots until I put a string with different tension. I went back to the strings I had and it was fine. I think it was just laughing at me because it didn’t make any sense.
