Lightest one I've owned was an MTD KZ4 at just a hair over 6 lbs. Next one was a Fender Lyte at 6.5 lbs.

That wouldn't really be considered a solid body bass then, would it? If it has a hollow area, I mean.

My fathers homemade "Cort" -
He took the neck from a cheap Cort bass and put it on a replica body he made and paintbrushed - its about 1.2kg - Funny thing is it doesnt have any neck dive at all

I agree, it's cheating a bit from the weight point of view The builder considers it a solid body as it's made from a single block of wood versus a semi-hollow or hollow body bass where the back is constructed and routed from one piece of wood upon which a separate top piece of wood is glued.

Ibanez S Bass from the late eighties to early 90's Light as a feather. My guitarist owns one and I can't believe how light it is. The S was only made from 89 to 91 or 92 I believe.

I dont care if its hollowed or not I love that thing.

My 86 Ibanez Roadstar is under 8 lbs but doesn't have that toyish feel that many lightweighters have although sometimes you can feel the string vibrating through the body on your leg while playing when sitting down. Thing still manages to sound great---does wood matter in tone? ( : !!!!!!!!!

simple question what is the lightest solid body bass you have ever played?

the lightest bass i personally played was an ibanez sr505 at the local guitar center. the body was paper thin and extremely comfotrable. as for tone and all that fun stuff it was nice but for that price id rather go with something else.

Hagstrom Hii-B is my lightest at 6.59lbs, and it is also my oldest electric bass (1965).

This is beautiful. Amazing looking bass.

+1. My Elrick GS5 was a shade under 7.5lbs. Borderline freekishly light.

My 35" Skjold 5 string was just over 7 lbs. Think about that. Extra long scale, 5 string, under 8 lbs. It had a fully extended upper horn that reach out over the 12th fret also to keep it balanced. It was a remarkable instrument.

The only bass I have that's lighter is a Turser Hofner copy.
