Double Bass Lightweight cab for TEN2 head

i have a ten2 and i use 2 different cabs: the ampeg 210av and the euphonic audio nl210.

i think the EA sounds a little better but, the ampeg weighs nothing and has a pretty decent tone. i bet pretty complimentary to an EUB.

with my DB in one arm and my cab and head in the other, i can get in and out in one trip.

The ten 2 cab is a very nice lightweight setup already. pull the head out and put it in the pocket of your gigbag/soft case, remove all of that docking station clutter and just use the basic cab. That's my lightweight setup with a high power Focus siii head. stripped down, you get a 2 x 10 head with 600 watts potential that weighs around 23 lbs; if you can't singlehand that during load ins...well.....the issue is not the cabinet!!!!!

I also have a pair of Acme B1s. They sound like nothing else that size; a pair is incredible, but a single will not put out enough sound for a trio or quartet gig, so it is not a lightweight option. When it comes time to party and lay down a thick low end, they blow the doors off the ten2, but I still like to have the ten2 in my quiver for a great clean articulate sound with a surprising amount of volume for a little stealth package.

I got one of these for my single cab solution, EB and UB;
RevSound vertical 4 ohm 2x10. Takes 350-400 watts all night long, vertical alignment give excellent projection, only weighs 30 lbs and costs $500.
Alternative would be the Ampeg 210AV, less money, smaller box & soundfield. Might want 2. Great for close-micing though.

anyone use the carvin 210?

love carvin stuff. i have the AG300 and extension cabinet for my smaller gigs and would love a matching 210 cabinet in tweed.

i do care about the tone over the look. but carvin is pretty flat compared to other cabs that are usually for BG

I normally use just one B1 and it is 'just enough'. Tonight I have a quartet hit with a loud drummer so I'll run two with my old Clarus. Two sounds more like four with the B1.

Agreed, it is always interesting to me how much more two B1s sound than a single; 3 B1s would be fantastic. I find a single pretty limiting in terms of volume for the style and people I gig with, almost always jazz and rarely a drummer, but very rowdy and fast in crowded hipster bars loaded with people talking and girls bumpin' and grindin'...We're playing all acoustic tonight so I'll be pulling hard and thinking, "What would Ed do?", but outside tomorrow and I'll bring the pair.

More than that, I really can't understand why a fellow who already has a 25lb 2x10 and is asking for a lighter cab keeps getting responses to get a bigger, heavier 2 x 10????? If a 25lb cab is too heavy, maybee it is time to hit the gym once in a while ....!

Hey Mike,

We need to catch up!

Without knowing why the Ten2 is not suiting your needs, I'm assuming you are looking for smaller/lighter and different sound profile or you wouldn't be asking.

If you looking for a different flavor of from the Ten2 then I think the Acme would be worth checking out. Slightly smaller, but overall dimensions and handle placement make it much easier to schlep.

For me the Acme B1 sounds best for very minimal sound reinforcement, blending with ambient piano very well. Very low sensitivity, doesn't get loud but goes deep. The HPF on your AI head to tame the low end would likely be helpful especially if you get stuck in a corner as the overall tonal presentation can get excessively deep with slight loss of punch. The B1 with my Cleveland/full circle/Woods is really nice for just slightly louder than no amp gigs. With a powerful horn player, sometimes would want a little more than one B1 can provide.

Other than the Acme, I would be looking at the GB Crazy8 or MAS cabs for smaller alternatives and favorably reviewed on the forums here for years here as you have probably already read. I have played the bigger MAS cabs (MAS46, Flex110) and still regularly gig the MAS112 for electric bass. Really great gear.

I usually gig with Berg HT112 (very old version) along with my Walter Woods. Less low end extension than the Acme but much more effective when needing to provide a higher level of rhythmic intensity and overall sound. From what I remember the Ten2 is in this sonic ballpark but I didn't prefer it to my current cabs when I tried it out myself. For some reason, I still remember it was somewhat awkward to handle and carry when I gave it a try on a couple of theater pit gigs and a trio gig.

I'm also frequently gigging Baer ML112 for dances/louder gigs with great results.

Let me know if you want to give one of the Acmes a try.
