Lil’ amps

No body, huh?

I used to have an Alembic F1X and a Stewart World 1.2 power amp. At the time, that Stewart was ultra lightweight for the power it made. It was a very versatile rig as you could run the amp bridged, or stereo to use One, two or four 8 ohm cabs.

Seems like they could do much better these days.

Not sure about micro power amps, as most seem to be rack mount that I have seen. Many, however, are very light now that they have adopted Class D amps.

Peavey IPR2 Amps come in under 15 lbs and the biggest is like 7500 watts (bridged, mono)

SWR did that Amp-Lite and Head-Lite thing, where it was a 1U half rack space power amp that you could add on to your 1U half rack amp to double the power.

There are lots of threads on here about 1U power amps, but general consensus seem to be that there is just not enough market interest to actually produce one. There are a few out there, but they tend to be companies you've never heard of, or super expensive, or super deep (like the stewart world 1.2).

Demeter makes one. Jule amps makes one and just released (or is about to) a 500w "pedal board" amp. But those are both pretty $$. Lots of dudes using the Quilter BB800 as a power amp - had a direct in on the back for that.

That Alembic was sweet. Wish I still had it. Paired with one of those Peavey amps would make a much smaller package than the Stewart and probably wouldn’t run so damn hot. Though the Stewart never failed even when you could have fried up lunch on top of it. The Alembic did have cut out issues that were blamed on defective witchcraft plugs in the effects loop. I had the loop wire out cause I never used it anyway. Wish I had read the HPF thread while I still had it. One of those little guys might have been just the ticket to tame that beast in a boomy room. It did sound heavenly in a decent room or outside though.

But now I’m spoiled by my Streamliner which does sound almost Alembic like but for the few times I’d like to run 4 single 8 ohm 12s with it the best I can do is use my little Tone hammer to run half of the stack but it can’t really be slaved like a power amp. The Smallest Peavy is only $399 whereas the Quilter is about $600.
