Saul William's section on the song Release on Blackalicious' CD Blazing Arrow. That is an amazing hip hop CD and the linked video is a beautiful piece of lyricism.
One of my favorite albums. I went to high school with Tim (Gift of Gab) and am big into most of the old Quannum crew: Lateef, Lyrics Born, DJ Shadow and Blackalicious. I like Gil Scott Heron's track, "First in Flight" a lot too. I am a huge hip-hop fan, in fact I'm listening to Rakim right now.
Nevertheless, there are aspects of some mainstream hip-hop that I have a hard time stomaching. My ex-fiance's father used (with equal parts embarrassment and disdain) the phrase "new millennium minstrel show", and I don't think he was that far off.
