LIL' WAYNE

16. When you can't find a good rhyme for a word make up new word that never exsisted before.
The worst example of this in music history is Sussudio. Dang, I can't stand that old British rapper!
17. When you can't be bothered to write your own beats and background for your raps just rip off another artists and call it sampleing.
Wait, Kid Rock is a black rapper?

Any music fan that listens to listen to, and likes, Lil' Wayne doesn't know anything about music.

Any rap fan that listens to, and likes, Lil' Wayne doesn't know anything about music or rap.

It's bad either way. Sorry guys, but it's true. You will have to come to terms with it eventually. You can throw around the word "opinion" like its okay to like him, but that doesn't change simple facts.

I'm going to come out and say it.

I don't know anything about music or rap.

Tell me what I need to know to enjoy it.

Lil' Wayne never bothered me.. IMHO some of his rhymes were pretty damn good.

I have nothing but respect for someone who can find something and capitalize on it, especially the way he has.. More power to him. Plus, I think he has donated quite a bit of money to Katrina victims.

Now with that being said I really don't like much of Wayne's stuff, I prefer something with a little more meat and potatoes:

I had a chance to meet both of these guys and Cee-lo (long before Gnarles) and they were really down to Earth and nice guys.

I rarely post here, but this thread has me a bit peturbed.

It's obvious to me this ric character has little exposure to the wonderful world of hip-hop, which is fine. I personally used to subscribe to a viewpoint similar to his.

Then I started listening to bands like De La Soul, Wu-Tang, Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Big L, etc.

I should also state right now that I consider myself to be a jazz devotee and am as pretentious as they come.

People seem so eager to judge hip-hop and rap on what they hear on the popular radio stations and MTV. An entire genre of music spread over 30+ years cannot be judged on a couple crappy songs. It's exactly this kind of attitude that stagnates our artform and keeps it from evolving.

Just my two pennies worth. :)

Great post.

Really? What if they're in the business of capitalizing on the glamorization of racism and bigotry, violence against women, abusing dangerous drugs, getting rich by stealing and the virtue of ignorance in general? And what if young impressionable minds latch onto this behavior with nearly religious conviction?

I suppose if these entrepreneurs threw a few spare shekels into the collection bin of some popular charity once a year then a few character "flaws" could be overlooked.

And I suppose it helps if some of the words rhyme.

ahahahahaahahahaha, ya he's intelligent. wow you have low standards. The guy can't even speak without sounding half ********.

He is not a marketer or an entrepeneur. He is just another in the long line of rappers that the music business pukes out.

Rules for making it it rap music:

1. Be black and a thug if not try real hard to act like you are.

2. Be thug and promote gang violence. If not and instead you are really a wimpy little weenie from the subburbs pretend you are from the street and hard.

3. Make sure to rap about bitches.

4. Make sure to rap about hoes.

5. Make sure to rap about gang life and violence. And promote being a criminal and violent as a great way to live.

6. Make sure to rap about how you feel about black culture and how, "the man," is keeping you down.

7. Make sure to rap about how much flow your raps have and that no one can beat them and everyone is jealous.

8. Make sure to wear a sports jearsey at some point.

9. Make sure to wear a baseball cap and turn to a slant that looks like someone tried to knock it off your head but you were too lazy to correct it.

10. Wear a rediculous amount of jewelery to show your fans how they are making you rich.

11. Wear a jewel encrusted, "grill," on your teeth even though you don't wear braces. This is really important as it will help you slur your words even more.

12. Make sure that some of your raps try to invent new colorful phrases in the hopes the phrase will catch on and people will repeat it.

13. When you play live make sure to hire a real band to back you up to make you look like a real artist.

14. When you play live make sure to have a team of other rappers around echoing parts of raps.

15.It's also a must that you and your hype men have no sense of pitch and sound very little like the recorded version of the rap. Even better if it's obvious that you are about the lose your voice, even though all you are doing is rapping.

16. When you can't find a good rhyme for a word make up new word that never exsisted before.

17. When you can't be bothered to write your own beats and background for your raps just rip off another artists and call it sampleing.

18. Make sure to have guest rappers/artist on your album to make up for the lack or real musical content, creativity and general skill.

take it for what you will, but hiphop/rap/r&b is the new rock 'n roll.

More stereotypes. Like saying all Rock and Roll is about snorting lines of Coke just because of Eric Clapton and America. Sure, it's present in some rap, but that doesn't represent the genre as a whole. Just like, yeah, drug use is present in a lot of Rock and Roll, there's a band from my town (of 50,000 in KY) who's guitarist I over heard discussing his lucky bill with which to do lines. But does that mean that all rock musicians dig the hard stuff, and that's all they write about?

Go listen to DANGERDOOM's album 'The Mouse and The Mask.' It is a Hip Hop album with all of the lyrical content written about Cartoon Network's 'Adult Swim' line of shows (Family Guy, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Space Ghost Coast To Coast, etc). Fantastic album. Or anything by Atmosphere, who writes from a very deep perspective, and is fond of fronting through 'Lucy,' a metaphorical character, representing all the trouble he's had with women/depressing, whatnot.

Word. Outkast, as well as Ceelo, and even Gnarls Barkley are all awesome examples of what Hip Hop can be.

What if they're not?

Good point. I recommend we do away with this satanic 'jungle music' and listen to our wholesome Rock and Jazz musicians, who would never get involved with or advocate drugs, crime, or womanizing.

Won't somebody please think of the children????

:rollno:

I despise the taste of liver. It doesn't matter if the greatest liver cooking artist prepares it, I'm not going to eat it. Evidently, that makes me "narrow minded, arrogant, and ignorant". Guess I'll wave my hands in the air like I just don't care.

You're right. It doesn't, at least not when you say 'I don't like Liver.' If you say 'Liver sucks blah blah babble that you state like fact' it does.

I havent read the whole thread, and feel free to flame if you feel necessary, but I think, some of the comments in this thread are bias.

and some of lil wayes songs are actually very intelligent and well thought out.

in fact, lil wayne is my favorite rapper, for his witty metaphores, and rhymes.

and just because youve heard one or two of his raps and arent a fan of those, doesnt mean its all garbage.

the radio never plays good songs, in my expierience, its all just mainstream.

if youd listen to some of his less heard stuff, maybe youd have a different view on him.

but yeah, I just brought a dead thread back to life.

so, whoops. I thought that needed to be said.
