Limit thread size to keep ancient posts from showing on page one?

I'm on the AGF forum and they limit threads to a 300 post count. I didn't know why they did this until I came here. I find myself looking at talk bass threads that were started many years ago. A lot of the information is stale by that time so I've been jumping ahead a dozen pages at a time and still seeing old dated posts. Has anyone considered limiting thread count here to keep the topics and posts current?

Personally I like that choosing a thread always gives you the OP. Sure, you can end up making redundant (or fresh comments) if that's all you do, but no harm done. After a while you do check the dates on the OP - some are irrelevant today, but some are fun just as a stroll down memory lane :).

Sometimes the OP will do a follow-up post giving us an update. That's pretty cool!

And sometimes someone will add new info to an old thread.
