I had a bass friend who bought some Yamaha 6 string that he paid about $2300? 20+ years ago. A few years later he saw it on clearance at Mars music? (Now GC?) for $699. So, at least fenders, squiers don’t go on clearance!

he should have bought two to bring down his average cost to $1,233

I imagine that even an instrument that was created as a limited edition might be on the sales floor 1 1/2 years later if it has not sold.

I bought a 50th anniversary P-Bass when they came out, partly because of the "unique" Butterscotch Blonde finish. About a year later, Fender made it a stock color on the American Series. Lesson learned.

I bought one of those see through butterscotch finish 50th anniversary P-Basses off of eBay for $500 after they had been out for a year or so. When all was said and done, it was kind of a half-assed anniversary offering with the finish and black aluminum pickguard being the only unique features. Fender didn't even see fit to field it with an upscale pickup. HOWEVER, mine has a neck that is to-die-for and is a super good playing bass and after I upgraded it with a FCS '59 Precision pickup from a Mike Dirnt signature P-Bass, it became a really good sounding bass, too.

"Limited Edition" and "Special Edition" are marketing terms, and therefore essentially meaningless. Also Squier manufactures instruments by the literal boatload, to make them profitable and also decent at the very low price. Maybe Squier isn't manufacturing the Sonic Blue one with the matching headstock anymore and it was truly a "limited run" - but the run was probably 10,000, and they're still trying to sell them off.

Ouch! That's really disheartening when that happens. I have an idea of what that Yamaha model was. I would have kept it and played it.

Picked up a "Limited Edition" PB for $219.00 at GC on the way home the other day. One day when I sell it , I'll turn that baby into a loss of $100.00 .
