limiter enhancer OR compressor?

i wan't to buy a line of pedals so i decided to buy :EQ pedal >>overdrive . and i want to have a long beautifull clean sound and i dont know how to do it ; by comp or limit . can anyone help me?

I don't think you would need an effect to have "a long beautiful clean sound"

^ gotta agree with these guys... long, beautiful and clean are more dependant on left and right hand technique than gear choices.

Not trying to say your technique needs improving. Perhaps we're just not understanding you correctly. Do you have a sample of someone's tone that you want to mimic?

let say i like to make solos with my bass and when i wanna do a bend the sound go in very short time . thay said to me that the limiter or compressor will help.

Oh ok, I see. By "long" you mean longer sustain. A compressor will definitely help your notes sustain (ring out) longer. They serve other purposes too but will work fine for that.

Compressors are not all created equally though, I'd do a bunch of research before you get one. A great place for all things compression is fellow TB'er Bongomania's site: http://www.ovnilab.com/. I would say compressor for adding sustain, more than a limiter. But new strings might be all you really need?

It's rough because most compressors are used to "fatten" your tone and many will also add some grit which is usually desirable. I'm sure the master will chime in soon but until then read some reviews on ovnilab.com.

I haven't tried either but an mxr m87 or Eden wtdi might be worth checking out.
