Line 6 G30 Wireless Now at GC

GC now has the Line 6 G30 listed on their website for $299 with an estimated delivery date of 3/12/10.

I have had one on order with Sam Ash since November. The original ship date there was 2-3 weeks. Not! My last conversation with SA was that Line 6 told them that they would ship in January. I assume after NAMM. Has anyone else been Gassing for these?

Those channel-change switches look WAY to easy to bump while grooving onstage. Shame they couldn't have recessed them a bit.

I haven't heard of anyone having a problem with the channels changing while performing. I am looking at an 8 hour battery life and a standard 1/4" .

At that price, i would go with the line 6 x2's. If you need a compact version, you can go with the normal one or the plus. They also have a rackmount version.

I would just for being able to use 1/4 inch cables alone. Those locking 1/8 to 1/4 cables the X2 uses are way too fragile.

But they are also cheap. Plus, if you keep them on the unit then you don't have to worry about them breaking

I agree but I am hesitant to jump to the new G90 for the following reasons.

1) The ship date on MF web site is listed as 3-12-10. How many times have we seen an expected ship date shown and then the item not arriving until several months later. Also there is no manual on Line 6's web site for the G90, so has it actually gone into production, or is all this just preannouncement dates to piggyback on the G30 introduction.

2) This is Line 6's first major roll out of a new wireless under their direction. So who knows what kind of bugs we will encounter. The frequency is new, as is the transmitter pack. I agree that the current pack is lacking in the cable area, but who knows if the new pack will be lacking in some other area. Just because they go to a 1/4" plug doesn't necessarily mean that it will be any better.

If it was already released, I could compare the 2 side by side. MF has said that production on the rack model has stopped and they will be out of stock when the ones that they have are gone.

How many times has the new improved version of something been a let down once we have gotten our hands on it, and realised that the old model was just as good and sometimes even better than the new one.

There have been no significant issues noted that I can find either on the Line 6 forums or with a Google search. The rack mounted G60 and G90 are a different animal though based on same technology. 2.4mHz has been around for a long time now so I don't think that the use of that frequency will be an issue. The other difference between the X2 units is the battery. The G30 uses AA batteries with a reported life of 6 or more hours. Compare this to the 3-4 hour maximum for the 9v in the X2. I do agree with you that Line 6 is playing games with the release until all the current inventory is depleted.

Agree 100%.

Except the G50 and G90 haven't even been released in the EU yet. Which makes me skeptical about their stated release dates for these units here in the U S.

One idea I have toyed with is to buy the XDR95 now and use it til the G90 is released. Then take a $100 hit and sell it and then get the G90. I just don't believe that the G50 and G90 are going to be released as they have stated. And as usual Line 6 won't comment.

The X2's reputation for sucking down 9Vs was a deal-killer for me. This looks like a *much* more interesting potential replacement for my Sennheiser, and a very reasonable price point. I'll be looking forward to real-world reviews after they've been out for a bit.

the original x2 does suck down the battery juice, but i don't care. i can write them off

i am very intrigued by this g30, especially since you can use it worldwide (don't let anyone fool you, though...our guitarist took his original x2 to stuttgart 2 years ago and it worked fine ), but i would need to buy two so i will use my original x2's until they fall apart.
