Line 6 HX Effects

Not sure if it might have been mentioned by someone earlier but...
On any of the non metal toppers/buttons that have set screws to mount
them, it works to touch the tip of one of the set screws around the outside.
It can also make them less prone to accidental touches(?) of the capacitive
foot switches if that's a problem.

I will have to try that with my Barefoot Button Toppers...thanks for the tip!!

I am going to pull the trigger on an HX Effects in the next day or so. I am thinking of running a Tech 21 Q Strip after it since apparently it can act as a cab sim in case I go direct. Has anyone had experience with this?

Also, what about running a compressor like the Aguilar TLC before or after the FX? Are the onboard compressors adequate?

This looks like a great piece of gear, and I would like to keep my board to 2 pedals max besides the FX, if that's even necessary. I've browsed thru this thread and it's been informative, but it looks like I've got 142 pages to read over the next few days.

HXFX has an IR block that you could load cab sims into. So I personally don't think having the Q Strip is necessary. A simple DI would suffice.

I personally run a Cali76 bass compressor before mine, but I have used the on board compressors before with great results. Really comes down to your comfort with dialing in a compressor. I use a Stomp on a smaller board with nothing before or after it as well.

I have a Qstrip after my HXFX and love it.

@Chace90 is right, you could just load an IR (Impulse Response) into the HXFX if you like, but I like having the Qstrip on there because it does seem to add a bit of warmth that I like, it has a DI, gives me an overall master volume, and has a couple other neat tricks that eliminate having to use blocks in the HXFX. Like Chace mentions, you can accomplish most of this within the HX with great results, and I have, but I like the Qstrip and have the board space.

I run a Symmetry before the HXFX for compression, but also like Chace says, there are some great compressor options in the Helix. I enjoy using the Stomp as a standalone "pedalboard" when I don't need synth, and my go-to compressor is the Deluxe Comp.

Here's my board, and the signal chain is:
Future Impact > Symmetry > HXFX > Octabvre in FX loop 1 > Bass Envelope Phaser in FX loop 2 > Qstrip. The Dunlop Mini Vol X is my expression pedal.

Im new to the Helix FX. Got mine a few days ago but loving it so far. Ive had a Stomp for a while, but felt the FX is the way forward for me as a do it all box. I dont use Amp/Cab sims, i have an Amp/cab for that. I do use the BDDI sim on all the time, which is how ive been using the real BDDi over the years.
Just need to figure out the best HPF solution, as i normally have the Stomp's built in HPF on in Global. I do also have a Q-strip but dont intend to use anything other than the FX. There are so many EQ options i dont feel i need it.

Low and Hi Cut Eq is good. It starts at 20hz with low cut (or hi pass)

For sure! I was just saying, it seems like @DownWithTheDown he only wanted to add the Q Strip for speaker emulation, and not the overall vibe it adds. Which I feel shouldn't be necessary given what the HXFX is capable of. I too use a preamp post-HXFX on my board. In my case that's an Aguilar Tone Hammer pedal.

Quick question to the HX brothers/sisters out there. At the moment I'm only playing the Helix Rack, but I am planning a couple of (theoretical) patches for the HX effects at home with no access to it and am not sure whether it is possible to have:
- Three snapshots starting from the bottom left
- The upper row with on/off's of other blocks

Is this possible? I can do it on the Helix, but am not sure here. I remembered having the four snapshots with bank up and down of the two buttons on the left (switches 1 and 4). This is kinda annoying, because you have 8 switches and only four are doing some controlling work, the others are for adjustments/between the songs etc.

I'm afraid it's not possible.

I guess sometimes you need to take one step back to take several forward. In my case that's involved very recently swapping my HX Stomp --> HX Effects, but already feeling happy that I've gone 'Neanderthal' so to speak.

Probably a throwback to my Zoom B3N days, but I'm loving having sight of a bank of four FX in one go which for me means a lot less needing to remember exactly what patch comes after what which I would have had to do with the Stomp (and was also the case with my old Zoom MS-60B pedal).

I'll likely go for a set up where my selection of top 12 FX are in the first three banks (which should be plenty) and then follow on with banks providing a choice of particular FX (e.g. 4 drives, 4 filters etc).

I guess other folks may go for one patch per song? Be interested in how you've got yours arranged.

But with 32 banks x 4 patches available there shouldn't be any practical limitation on the variations possible!

@Digital Igloo I've just noticed that Obsidian 7000 is inverting the polarity of the signal. As this can be legitimate musical choice in sound design, it is worth noticing that original DG B7K Ultra does not invert. It would be great if that could be corrected in future updates.
For all of you folks wanting to use Obsidian 7000 in parallel or split crossover mode, don't forget to put it in path B with polarity inverted in mixer, for phase coherence. (more fat sounding)

Wow, I wasn't aware of this and so glad you posted it.
Last week i had a really bad rehearsal. Took my Jazz bass for the first time in ages, first time since getting a Helix. Using a Quilter BB800 and Fearless F112 i had one of the worst tones in months. It's normally fine with my Yamaha. Anyway, it was also the first time with my new presets in my Helix HX. I had, for the first time put the Octave down on path B (first time ive ever used a second path), and i had also swapped out my usual BDDI sim for the Obsidian as my always on. Now this all makes sense as it was indeed a thinner, almost hollow tone. Ive just changed the polarity in the Mixer block and what a difference. Normally has been resumed.

HXFX wizards: The manual is a little vague and I don’t own a HXFX. I want to know if the following is possible for controlling an Eventide H9:

1. Send a different program change on selection of a preset. So if I select 1C, it sends program change 5 (or any number I choose) to the H9.

2. With each effect toggle or snapshot, send the same cc# (let’s say 6) to toggle the H9 in and out of bypass mode.

3. Would there be a way to selective pass along expression pedal messages to the H9? Ie, not all the time?

Thanks. I’ve got an HX stomp but am eyeing an FX.

For 1 and 2 command center is your friend. The six instant actions you can set up are sent when selecting a patch. You can further set up actions for specific footswitches. All of these can be any kind of program change, cc or whatever on any MIDI channel.

Fot the expression pedal thing I don't have a good solution, maybe you could put the H9 in an effect loop and toggle the bypass?
