Line 6 HX Effects

For sure! I don't personally use snapshots a ton myself, but they sure are handy when you find a use for them.

Another trick I forgot about. In the Global Settings --> Switches, you can set Snapshot mode to be Latching or Momentary. Latching means the 4 switches for snapshots stay up when you select a snapshot. Momentary means when you pick a snapshot, it immediately switches back to stompbox mode. Same option is there for Preset mode too.

THANK YOU @Chace90, I've always felt I had a good handle on the HXE but this was a pain on the one song preset I use snapshots for. Wondered why you couldnt just tap between snaps rather than have to duck out of stomp view every time!

The Teemah is my favorite as well, I use it pretty much exclusively now... Love the sound and how it fits into my gigs. Sounds great with all my basses in general, but I particularly dig it with my P Bass for some great old school warmth.

Teemah! settings:
Gain: 0.6
Bass Cut: 0.0
Treble Cut: 3.8
Clipping: Center
Level: 5.0
I'm using the KWB exactly in this way. I'll try the Teemah

Greetings. I'm trying to figure out whether I can toggle between assignments of a single expression pedal within a single preset. EXAMPLE: I have a single expression pedal going into expression input 1. I want that pedal, WITHIN THE SAME PRESET to either control volume or delay feedback, but not both at once. Is there a way to set up a footswitch to toggle between expression pedal functions?

Is this or something like this possible, or do I always need two pedals if I want to control two different expression parameters in a preset?

TIA.

I don't think so. One idea is to have duplicate blocks for the 2 things you want to control with a single expression controller and use snapshots to toggle between the appropriate blocks.

Snapshot 1: vol 1 and delay 1 on, assign expression to vol 1
Snapshot 2: vol 2 and delay 2 on, assign expression to delay feedback

So in this case, even though the expression is controlling 2 parameters, the block that you don't want messing with the other will be bypassed accordingly.

Another idea would be to get some sort of selectable expression pedal splitter. 1 pedal in, 2 (or more) outs to the 2 expression inputs on HXFX.

Surely other ways to accomplish the same thing.

Today I'm setting up patches and effects chains on the HX Effects, and I just realized something: is there a way to edit a preset for an effect? Example: if I have an overdrive and a distortion, I might adjust their relative level at a particular venue or with a particular bass, but then it would be set for every song. But the way the HX Effects works, I'd need to do that for every single patch if I set up a patch per song. Is there a better way? I have a H9 but I only use that for modulation, where it's not as much of an issue.

Im pretty sure that’s what snapshots are for...

Are you talking about levelling each patch out? You could add a mixer block to give you a level control and then cut and paste that in to other patches.
Sorry, I'm not quite sure what the question is.

I think he means that when you load a block, the block settings are always default meaning they always have to be changed
Ah. If so i guess he could cut and paste the adjusted ones in to the relevant patches, but it would be good set be able to set a different default setting to effect blocks when loaded.
Ive sure i have seen something like this happen, but cant remember the sequence, and i dont think it was much use.

Okay, so my first time at band practice was great. I used the compressor in parallel, which sounded natural and good to replace my Smoothie. The pitch shifter seems to work fine monophonically as a replacement for the POG.

The Teemah was more or less interchangeable with the Xotic BB Bass pre. It was actually shocking in use. Nothing is coming close to my VFE Woodchipper, but we can hope something will come along. For distortion, I used the Vermin and added a parametric EQ with bass boost to try and approximate my Idiot Box Blower Box. It seems usable but I am not totally inspired. I'm wondering what others are using for high gain distortion that's not fuzz, and that retains low end.

My Eventide H9 stays firmly velcroed to the board for its sweet reverb and modulation effects.

I created a patch a while back that mimicked the B:ASSMASTER which is what the Woodchipper is based on. If I remember, I'll try to share it here again for you.

I usually use the rat or OCD and them split the paths for low end retention.

Hoping to get a little advise on tone sculpting. I'v got a simple patch setup with a Deluxe Compressor just running the default settings into an Obsidian7K(on all the time) with the drive dialed up and Dist switch ON get some dirt up front, bass bumped some, treble pulled down some. Then into a Gray Flanger, Wah and Fuzz Pi. From the HX i got to a Sansamp BDDI that's bypassed and am just using as a DI really. I also have a Countryman 85 I thought about swapping in place since the Sansamp isn't doing any tone control.

Had a gig last Saturday, had an amp on stage but wasn't mc'd, just the DI from my board. I asked the sound guy afterwards how the bass signal was for him and he said "pretty good. a little clanky so i had to add some compression at the board to bring it down." He's done sound for us a couple of times at different clubs and I trust him. I'm playing a P-bass with Rotosound Swing66's. What i found interesting is that he said he was using compression to bring down "the clank". I would think some EQ tweaking on the O7K would be more appropriate? I've never ran a compressor before, but after trying one out i definitely see the benefit of it. Which would be more effective you think to adjust?

I assume you don’t want clank? The B7K is a clank machine. I have been known to use clank but it’s of course a matter of taste and style.

If you’re new to compression, take some time to learn it. You can really affect the attack and release for your bass, as well as the clank. I also almost always run my compression at a 50/50 mix so that there is some articulation to my playing.

The other thing with the O7K besides playing with EQ is turn the drive down just a notch lower than you think you want it. That can help a lot too.

Lastly, do you play harder live than in practice? If so, that may bring the clank as well.

I don't mind a little clank, but don't want the sound guys to get grumpy about it either.

I'll play with the compressor stuff more and get a feel of what changes make the most difference.

I try not to play harder live. But you know how that goes...

I'm in the process of recording bass at home for an upcoming release, and on one of the tracks there is a bass solo that I think should be distorted, and have some reverb, etc, like a "traditional" heavy metal guitar solo, if you get what I'm aiming at.

Does anyone have any good suggestions for patches/settings in the HX to use for this purpose?

Thanks!
