Line 6 HX Stomp

Question about Program Change that HXS sends when you change patches: What exactly is the message that's sent? When I hook up a synth (midi out of HXS to midi in of synth) switching to program 1 on the HSX takes the synth to patch 2, 2 on HSX to program 3 on the synth, and so on. I figure this is because the HXS starts with 0 and the synth programs start at 1. But does switching to patch 0 actually send a 1 for the midi? Why wouldn't it send a 0?
Bottom line is I wish they lined up, and I thought maybe knowing what the actual midi content is might give me some insight. Thanks!
I think it might be the other way around: synth indexes from 0 HX from 1, but it doesn't matter. If you bring up your patch list, it should display the corresponding pc and cc values in the lower right corner of the screen.

Bring up the patch list in the editor? Or on the hxs? I don't see pc or cc values anywhere.

Am I wrong in thinking that since the first preset is called 000 FX:stereo swirl that it starts at 0, whereas on my synth the first preset starts with 01, so I would think that it starts at 1? I just wish when I select preset 10 on the stomp that it would send a pc message to change the synth to program 10 (I think it will be 11, which could be confusing). I'm thinking there is going to be no way to make that happen.

I'm sending midi from the pedal to the synth, and I think that's the other way around, but I suppose it sends the same message that it responds to, in which case I'm not sure what that means, for my question at least. Except that like you say, the synth's 001 must actually be (or respond to) 000. Not much I can do about it I guess, but at least it's a relatively small PIA. Thanks.

The "Note" at the bottom of @SirMoak 's screenshot is valid for you though. If you'd rather it didn't send anything when you're changing presets, you can turn that off.

I have both the HX Effects and Stomp. The Stomp is controlled by the FX and when the global settings go reset at firmware update and PC on patch change got enabled, it sent the same PC as the input PC. So I guess it's true both ways.
TBH, MIDI control is not a strong side of the Stomp, the FX is much more suited for this.
Also, your synth might have some settings which control how it responds to CC, but I don't remember if you mentioned which synth you use.

I'm going to put basically our song list onto my stomp, and when I get to a synth song it should send the pc for the right synth patch and change the active input when I get to it, so I don't have to do any futzing with the synth. Just one click on the stomp at the end of each song.

I'm worried about the patches lining up just because it will make rearranging it for each gig a little more tricky, since they will be one number off. But I can deal with it. cc isn't something I would want to do, so no biggie there.

@SirMoak I'm Planning to pair my HXe with a Stomp in the future - interested to know whether you have HXe in the Stomp loop or just in front?

I have it after the stomp :) In most cases I have enough blocks in the stomp for effects before the amp sim. I use the FX for post effects monitor routing and sometimes to merge the output of a Bass Station II in my chain. I'm doing some MIDI control from the FX, like changin stomp modes or switching expression pedals.

So when are line6 going to up their game in the pitch shifting department? I've heard rumors but nothing concrete. As it stands the only two pedals I'm running with the Helix are an octavbre and a pitchfork

I dont mind the Simple Pitch and Bass Octaver blocks in a mix, however, I do agree that are not at the same level as the Octabvre. I have one of those too and really like it. :)

What do you prefer for 1 octave down? Ive been using the Bass Ocatver, but was thinking maybe the Simple Pitch might sound better?

I think the Simple Pitch sounds tighter than the Bass Octaver. The BO has a little more boom and low emphasis. The Simple Pitch sounds like the BO but with a high pass filter attached....sort of.

I am considering getting a Stomp and wanted to see how many banks of presets you can easily access with the 3 footswitches on this box. I probably won't ever need more than 4 or 5, but didn't know how limiting the 3 switches are compared to the HX Effects in a live situation.
If you can get away with using 3 foot switches to turn on and off effects, you can get a cheap 2 footswitch box to use for preset select. Giving 5 altogether.
