Line 6 HX Stomp

I just got around to updating and playing through the new toys and oh boy. The noble really does adds a lot while not adding much if that makes any sense.

I ran the regal with the HPF on, bass 5.0 treble 3.0 and then split the path to an amp/cab block with the Mandarin and powerhouse, high passed it at 220 hz and merged everything back into a studio tube pre and then added some EQ and compression and this thing sounds so good I just spent like 3 hours jamming.

Love it!
Really interesting to read about this kind of creativity with preamps/amps/cabs mixing and splitting and chaining. I tend to go at it from a more traditional standpoint with one of each in series, but there's so many more possibilities. Thanks for this write-up, I might try to replicate it sometime.

My Pedalnetics Helauxy Duo Mini arrives. It works as advertised. I’m not sure if I’ll end up keeping it as I find the right two footswitches on the Stomp more comfortable to access without it. I need a little more time with it before I decide. Cool concept regardless.
Usually if someone has this issue, squeezing a Compact SideAux next to the Stomp is a good middle ground: still a nice compact size (but does take an inch of pedalboard space), but moves the switches out of the way so your Stomp switches are still accessible with the "normal" feel/space around them
HX Stomp Compact SideAux 2 - Pedalnetics
If you end up thinking you want to do that, just reach out, I'll make a product swap pretty painless :)

Super generous of you. I’ll play around with it a bit.

Don’t see it….what am I missing?

Thanks for doing this!

On my computer sound system, the Regal is a little more boomy. Overall though they are darn close!
The thing about the video... what lessened my desire to order a Noble in the future isn't because how darn close they are. It's what he said about degradation of signal in recording down the line. I'll never be a studio musician, or ever make it a career at this stage of my life. It's close enough on my stomp/khan playing live, and silent practice at home. I can hear a small difference, but for me... this video convinced me that the difference isn't worth paying $2k for.

I have owned a Noble and I liked it a lot. It was excellent for what it was, but it was really a one trick pony. If you happen to need that trick, it's an excellent piece of gear. I had mine before prices went crazy. I think I paid $800 for mine which I thought was ridiculous until I sold it for $1000.

That said, I took my go to patch and added the "Regal" at the end, which is how I use my Khan DI. I absolutely LOVE the Khan VTDI. I also have a Walrus Canvas LI on my board that is as transparent as can be. What you put in is what you get out, only transformer line isolated, where the Khan absolutely imparts a sound signature.

So I did a little experiment. I ran a split path on the HX Stomp. One channel is the line out on the HXS to my Khan. The other is the line out on the HXS to my Canvas LI...the only difference is...the path routed to the Canvas has the "Regal" at the end of the chain...set flat.

It sounds pretty good folks. Here's the two snippets I put together using America's "Tin Man" as the track. It's good a good bass line that has a good range.

The Regal does very little.

If you don't use the HPF or tone controls it's a nothing burger. Harmonics that far below signal just aren't audible. In percentage, the highest harmonic is ~0.3% of the fundamental :bookworm:

If you crank it, do the harmonics approach something audible?
