Line 6 M9/M13 users?

(If theres a thread for this kind of stuff, just point me in the right direction)

I'm usually a guitar player, but I'm (finally) getting back to playing bass this week, and I have rehearsal on Wednesday. I've added a Line 6 M9 to my pedalboard, and I wanted to try using it with bass. So, what kind of effects do you guys use on the M9 with bass? (With settings levels if at all possible)

Tube comp, bass octave, any delay, Facial Fuzz and some of the filters.

Those are my faves unless I'm going for a more exotic sound, at that point it becomes really user specific.. I need to roll the volume off my bass to get the comp, fuzz, and filters to respond the way I like.

I have trouble giving 'settings' as I am kind of a knob tweaker and generally like an effect first, then find a bunch of settings I like second.

I'm definetely planning on messing around with the compressors and delay, I'm also hoping to find a good overdrive sound (It's a worship band I'm playing in, but they've been ok with me "tweaking around" with effects before :D )

Also there is an M9 thread in the Line6 Forum. This should help you get started. Also, make sure you have the latest firmware. Line6 added some bass-specific models with the updated firmware.

Exactly what I was looking for, thanks! And how do I check what version of the firmware I have? Is there a way to check without plugging it in (I can borrow the MIDI cable from my keyboard player, but I don't want to waste the time if I'm fully updated)

I'll echo this... without the blend, the distortions don't work well on bass, IMO. With the blend, it's a whole new ballgame- most every distrtion not only becomes useable, but sounds really good!

I just got mine a couple days ago, but so far I mostly use the Digital Delay for making noise, and the Tape Delay for normal delay stuff. I also like the Opto Tremolo but I haven't found a use for it yet. I basically got it because I was going to buy a used DL4 for $150, but then I found this for $200.

I have a scene on my M13 set up for my worship gig. The first bank has the tube comp, bass octave, and +1 octave shift. The second has two different EQ presets (one to bring out growl on my fretless, one to get deep and thick), and the volume pedal. Three is for delays, and bank four has modulation and the octo-verb. I use the volume, extreme delay, and octo-verb for a pretty convincing pad/string sound with my fretless, and I keep the tube comp on almost all the time.

Has anyone found a way for making the pitch glide sound somewhat natural? It seems to me that there are all sorts of digital artifacts present, and they make it sound very unnatural and unusable.

It sounds fine to me. It is monophonic, so if you're trying to shift chords, you will run into trouble, but for single notes, it tracks well. Do you have the updated firmware?

IMO Digitech Whammy does not sound natural either and pitch glide is modelled after it. I previously owned Whammy 4 and still have Bass whammy but haven´t used it since pitch glide was updated to M13. :bassist:

Yes, I have the updated firmware, and I'm not trying to play chords or anything. I'm simply trying to approximate an 8-string or a bass and a rhythm guitar, but it just sounds too digital for my taste.
