These have been discontinued, and they’ve been out of the HD750s for a long time, but these 400s have been hanging around for $399 for quite a while.

Not a bad head, with plenty of features.

Note that there’s a “mint” used one for $260.99.

Played through one of those the other night, trying basses at Guitar Center. May have to look into it... Really versatile and come stock with some great tones.

I bought one a couple weeks ago. Returned it after about two hours. It's noisy as hell. Has a nice gritty rock tone. I couldn't get much volume out if it because the gain and the compressor add so much noise when you turn them up.

I think it's the opto compressor or whatever Line 6 calls it. It should be called the noise button. My Studio 110 is the same way

I absolutely LOVE my Lowdown heads. Trick is that you can't ever rely on the factory presets to give your personal instrument & playing style great tone, and like any digital equipment - it does have a learning curve.

Personally - I have found that I get the best tones by setting my bass tone knobs to my usual settings, and then flattening everything out to 12 o'clock on the amp while turning OFF the effects & Comp.

Then it gets pretty easy to select the desired amp mod and get your tone nailed down before you add the comp & effect / deep contour (if desired).

Have found these damn things bullet-proof. Ran the 400w 2x10 combo for a few years before moving to the heads & had no problems either.

Other suggestions - Spend the extra few $$ and grab a Line6 FBV Shortboard MKII foot controller while you are at it. Makes for easy switch-overs, a full 36 preset's, and makes it dead easy to make sure that you have perfect leveling when switching to different instruments with dissimilar output ratings.

Just got my LD400 combo today for £250 ($340)!!! What a lot of amp for the money! I'm so pleased with it. I gave up gigginig in 2007 and sold all my gear then too, but last week came into some money and treated myself to 2008 Fender Jazz Aerodine MIJ' and this lovely combo, Great for playing around with at home, and I'm sure it has enough grunt to gig with at a small venue with full band if I ever join a band again.
