I'm not much of a solo bass fan, but this guy just kinda blows my mind. Discuss, after you get up off the floor.

I got to see him with Zawinul. He played in the pocket all night and then did his crazy stuff during the solo. He shared the chair with Michel Alibo on a few Nguyen Le discs which are fantastic. I must say I get a bit nervous during his solos!

He certainly has his own sound! I really like his originality. I think he does almost all of his playing France. I don't know if I have ever seen a video of him in the USA.

I saw him appx 5-6 years ago with Zawinul in LA. IIRC it was his first time here. It was a surprise to us as Ettiene was supposed to be on the gig, and a nice surprise at that!

He gets a lot of use with what sounds like a volume - wah pedal. Swells are on point and his right hand is blazing. At first I thought that was a fretless bass. Here he is again:
