figured i'd throw this out there for anyone looking into this filter, since i happened to get such a nice recording of it.

track 3, from 5:30 and on the proton is on. the octave effects before it in the chain are form a digitech whammy.

recorded with a zoom H4N placed on the stage pretty much directly infront of my bass rig- hence the clean direct sound of the bass.

sort of sloppy and weird playing, but the filter sounds great i think.

If that's your "sloppy" playing, then your tight playing must really be impressive! That sample confirms everything I've read or heard about the Proton so far. It seems like it might just be that "Goldilocks" filter - plenty funky, but never over the top, plays well with other pedals, easy to set. In other words, just right! It actually sounds a lot like my Multivox Big Jam Spit Wah - like a Mu-Tron III with a little less grit and bite, but smoother and without the issues (size, bypass, power supply).

dirt from VT bass throughout almost the whole gig. from what i heard just now on that track its probably just VT and red witch moon phaser.. if theres flange (there probably is at spots) its the boss one.

i was originally real dissapointed with the proton, but in this mix it sounds pretty nice to me. i guess i was originally to hung up on it not being enough "exactly" like a vintage mutron to dig that its just a nice filter.

and another note- the proton was powered from a regular 9v 1-spot adaptor. i've never tried it with other power, actually.

sounds great! been tryin to get mine to sound like that but i'm havin a tough time, where is your peak set at? i'm also using a compressor to keep my peak all the way up and it sounds tame to my ears while playing but when i listen back it sounds great. i bought a hosa 9 or 12v adjustable supply and 12v is too bright for my comp and distorts and my amp's been at my drummers for over a month so i havent had a chance to try it through that yet.

the peak is all the way up. i feel like thats the only usable sound, on both this and the vintage ones.

i dont think i'd ever use a compressor with this particular pedal. its pretty well-behaved. there is a volume boost, because filters add resonance, but when i step on it i dont want it to behave like reverb and just alter the audiences perception of the sound- i want it to get louder. just not too much, like a qtron or real mutron or DODFX25 or ext ext ext..

The lack of a dry/wet blend knob is the only thing that keeps me from ordering one of these. Yup, I know the GR2 has one, but I don't use a filter enough to justify the expense or the PB real estate. Could swap the Proton out for my MXR M-82... but the separate levels for dry and effect really make the MXR the ideal tool for me. The Proton does sound fantastic though.
