Live vs recordings

So I'm a first time band member with a half dozen gigs under our belt (as a band) and were recording some some original songs for an EP or album or whatever. The other members in the band have been playing together for years and are, in general, more "musical" than I (i.e. more skillful, know theory, etc.). Our band is a three piece with an additional vocal. When I hear the first draft of the mix, there are at least four to five different (distinct) guitar tracks, as well as some additional "flair". I feel like if we can't (or don't plan on) playing it live, it shouldn't be on the recorded version (with the possible exception of a rhythm guitar track during the solos). Are my concerns legit, or am I just being naive?
