Following on from my earlier video of my 1964 Jazz Bass - folks seemed to dig it, so I made another, this time of my 1964 Precision Bass (refin).

I went with the awesome baseline on Lizzo's 'About Damn Time' - which is tuned down to Eb. The bass has TI Jazz Flats and is run through an Origin Cali76 Compact Bass and a Noble DI.

I think this nails the classic P Bass tone - but I would welcome everyone's thoughts and comments!

Your playing and tone are awesome! Slightly off-topic, but how are you coming across these classic basses? I've been dreaming of a '60s P Bass, but everywhere I look (TB, Reverb, Craigslist, local music shops), they're at least $10K. Are folks really paying that much, or are there special deals or auction finds involved?

Really nice tone! How are you getting so much snarl on a Precision with flats? Would a modern P do that?

Having neither owned nor ever played a 64 Pbass, I'd say that a big part of this funky snarl is the TI flats (i.e. a set of flexible trebly flats) as well as, of course, @mikeowen17's groovy touch. Given the input (playing style/ability, strings), a modern Pbass should be able to produce this output, although I suspect that the Vmod pickups would not be the best option.

Thank you! As for the basses - I was lucky enough to get the P as part of a trade deal, and the J I just had to pony up for! It was advertised as a 65, when it is actually a 64, so that may have helped the price a touch!

Many thanks! Those TI flats that I have on it really are great for stuff like this - they are the only string I use these days and they are capable of pretty much anything!
