LM-III or Eden WTX500?

I just tried an LM-III for the first time and it sounded great. Current amp is Eden Nemesis NA650 so I know I like the Eden sound. Would be interested in some opinions on these two amps. Both seem like they would be good buys but I'm on the fence here so nudge away!!!

Thanks! :bassist:

Id go with the MB amp. i bought a WTX-500 and it was horrible. it sounds NOTHING like the well-respcted WT tube heads,. also the output is nothing like and eden WT. traded it for a Gallien Krueger MB2-500 and its great!!! a Markbass sounds waaaay better. one thing that scares me about them though is that if they malfunction, im sure theyre a hassle to deal with being from overseas.

i tried a wtx 260 out today and the output was extraordinary. i have no idea why they say they don't have much output. It easily could keep up with my ampeg svt3pro at same volumes. i personally don't like the markbass tone maybe it was a bad one i tried just didn't do anything for me. it be a tough call between a wtx 500 and a gallien krueger mb2-500. both are very good.

I'd go with the Eden. Me, I don't trust Italian electronics. I also love the Eden sound, and am thinking about one myself.

However, the WTX-500's tone stack is not the same as the classic Eden series heads. I have a '96 WT-300 which is the type locality of Eden tone, and a WT-800B which sounds a lot like it. My WTX-500 requires a little boost in the bass and mid to get close that "set 'er flat and rip" tone of the others.

That said, the WTX-500 has great tone and volume. It sounds bitchen through any of my D-series cabs. Tomorrow, I'm going to see how it sounds through a Bergantino AE212.

What bass and cabs were you using? Your experience is 180° out of phase with mine. Try plugging it into a D-410XLT or XST. Mine sounds great with my D-210XLT or D-210XST, too.

Having run both through my Epifani UL410 the WTX500 IMO sounds better. A slight boost of the bass and the tone fills out really nice. Through the Epifani the MarkBass stuff sounded a little to mid nasal to me.

While I'm not much of a fan of the Eden micro's, I agree that with certain widely voiced cabs with low mid holes, like the UL410, the LMII/III does not have the low end EQ power (i.e., the ability to meat up the upper bass/lower midrange) to even out and punch up those types of cabs. The Eden/410UL is a very nice combination IMO and IME.

For the 410UL, the Markbass F500 is pretty incredible sounding also, and doesn't have that 'upper mid wool' that is kind of baked into the Eden voicing to my ear, but yet has much more tightness and punch down low than the LMII/III.

I played my Alembic Series I and WXT500 tonight at the Ogden Theater in Denver and had three guests play through it as well. The other bass rig was an SWR, which was OK, but the consensus was that the WXT500 sounded clearer and deeper. The stage sound was big and full (core 4 piece band with 4 piece horn section and various singers/guitarists/fiddlers/banjo, etc. We were covering the Band's Last Waltz to a packed house) and it felt great in the house. I've beat the crap out of it on a regular basis, with output limit light lighting up with each note (although not continuously on) and it just keeps going. Not quite as satisfying as the WP100/Crown XTi4000 rig, but almost and it certainly has been a great backup. The two have a different tone stack, but the sound people who I work with regularly don't seem to notice too much of a difference. If anything happened to it, I'd get a replacement.

My experience with MarkBass stuff is much more limited, but I didn't really get along with the tone. I bought one of their lightweight heads a while back and returned it the next day. I know some people love them, but it wasn't for me.
