Logic Pro X: editing audio across tempo change

Hi everybody, I've posted this question to the Apple support communities, but I figured casting a wide net across the internet couldn't hurt my chances of getting a good answer. Here's my issue:

I'm trying to edit some audio that occurs during a tempo change: I've got a long ritardando that shifts the BPM from 160 down to 80 over the course of 16 bars. The trouble I'm running in to is that every time I snip a waveform in the arrange window, the waveform moves! The region in front of the snip doesn't shift, but the region after the snip shifts several ticks to the right. This makes it impossible to sync hits to the beat - I'm eternally chasing a shifting waveform.

This doesn't happen while I'm editing in any other part of the song - just the section during the tempo change. I don't understand why the regions keep shifting every time they're cut. I'm at a loss here - help me out! Thanks!

EDIT: TB apparently censors the common musical term for the tempo gradually becoming slower. Fixed to the Italian term.

Do you have flextime enabled and it's adjusting the flex markers relative to the ever-changing tempo across the section in question?

Nope - no flex involved.

Ok, I figured it out: enabling Flex Time on the track somehow prevents the regions from automatically stretching. I don't intend on using Flex Time anchors, but at least this allows me to edit and move regions without weird side effects.
