I recently saw Megadeth in concert, and noticed that LoMenzo, their bassist of course, switched between pick and fingers alot. The astute observation I made was that he played a pick with all of the pre United Abominations stuff, and fingers for all the stuff off that album (which he recorded on). I was pretty impressed at how he kept the good ol' vibe of the earlier Megadeth stuff by giving it that Ellefson pick sound. Mind you, he definately didn't seem as capable as Ellefson with a pick. Also his Marcus Miller Jazz sounded great, and he uses Ashdown just like me,

I use the MM Jazz in my metal band. Works great for it. I always get flak for it from other bands before we take the stage...afterwards they usually don't say crap. Cool to hear somebody else uses it in Metal.

When I saw him with Megadeth at the last Gigantour (not this year's), he was using his Warwick Buzzard.

I'm still partial to Ellefson's style, but he's a great bassist. Plus, when I met him backstage that night, he was the one member of the band who stood up and shook my hand. I guess he was glad I wasn't another guitarist.

I saw him live with Megadeth last year, the bass intro to Peace sells (at least thats the one I think I'm talking about) sounded flawless as if Ellefson was playing it.

I do have to say though that Ellefson's B string sound was mUCH heavier, probably because he plays sonic maximizers!

Don't forget "Book of Shadows". Not the same as Pride and Glory, but a pretty good CD.. James also played on the BLS CD Mafia...

And Martin Mendez happens to be THE kick ass metal bassist. that boy certainly knows what rythm is all about.

Lomenzo's style is great...also when I saw him in the past two tours (pre-Gigantour'08) He did as you said landry.bass, play the Ellefson stuff flawlessly with a pick. His fingerstyle on United Abominations is amazing you can really hear the low end. At first I was in denial because it's just different not to hear Junior's attack on the record, but after a few listens...it just hits you in the face. Glad Dave picked him up. I think he uses a hipshot d-tuner on his MM Jazz Bass does anybody know?

When he played in Louisville, KY he appeared to be using a MM or something very similar.

I wasn't there, but that's what the pics look like.

He did use the MM Jazz, but he was playing other basses as well.

I think he's an amazing bassist!

It's a Yamaha, but I don't know the model. This is the only bass I see he used from the pics, so he may not have used the MM Jazz.

Great cd and I'm listening to it as we speak. Lomenzo was sort of stymied by his work with White Lion, but he's really proven himself. P&G came out in '94 during the height of the 'grunge' days so it was sort of lost. If it were released today, it would be a killer.

We covered Troubled Wine on Saturday night and it totally killed!
