My mate has a boner bass.
I like it....it's different from the regular.

But why? What were they thinking and why, if it was the next best thing, is this not currently implemented?
Perhaps they've thought about a better balance ? And finally it didn't fit better ? Perhaps people didn't like it and didn't bought it enough for this model to be profitable ?

Fender Jazz Bass Plus, AKA "Boner" or "Longhorn". Jazz Bass Plus and Precision Bass Plus were in production from around '89 to '95.

Think about it this way - although some TB notables love their slab bodied, thick necked, tiny radius, two saddle, single coil pickup Ps, most play instruments that feature modernizations:
Body contours
4 saddle bridges
Humbucking split pickup
Flatter radius
Thinner necks
these were all ideas that got tried out on production instruments and stuck. The boner didn’t and went away.
was your question “why try new ideas?” Because that does not sound like a recipe for fun and progress at all!

But hey, it says Fender on the headstock. I'm sure it'll reach "rare", "impossible to find", and "you don't see these often" status and triple in perceived value soon.

I've been looking for one of these beast by the past. Didn't noticed than the OP's one only had 22 frets. For me the long horn was for 24 frets Fender trials..
