It's not one of those "since I haven't gotten it yet, I won't get it ever" type of things. The body stops letting you put just so much strain onto it when you hit a certain age.

I bet that by now Flea has dealt with this. He is old enough and been playing long enough that he must have.

Yeah, you're probably right.

I don't know why, but at first I thought he was plucking the E string. :eek: I've just realised he was actually plucking the A, which makes much more sense. :o

I think that, in the case of Flea's playing, it's not as much a function of technique as it is energy while playing. I don't think he consciously intends to play that hard, rather, I think that he gets caught up in the energy of the song and it translates into a playing style.

I've found myself plucking harder on high energy stuff (though not like that) simply because the energy level, and thus, my adrenaline, was raised.

I dunno... I think he does okay. I suppose everyone could work on their chops but if he:

Contributes to the Peppers music
has fun
doesn't hurt himself

Then what difference does it make? Why would it have to be cool or uncool. It is just the way he likes to play.

Hmm, what does it mean if someone "can play like he can" while using good technique?

Naw, I really don't think it's that hard at all. When your playing and diggin' in, you don't realize how much you're tugging on the strings. Here's an old pic of me that shows how much I dig in. That's a few years ago....I SWEAR I ain't that big, but that hockey-type jersey really fattened me up for the night! LOL After I saw the pics I gave that jersey away! Hahaha

I'm sure Mr. Flea can play circles around me, but I can't see how one can enjoy his sloppiness. Not that he can't play clean; he does so on many recordings. But it sounds like on some songs he just doesn't care at all. I can't see what's so cool about that.

Why should it be cool or uncool? It's just what the song is. Flea doesn't require anyone's permission to play what he wants and I believe over the years has payed his dues and proved his talent. It is that if he is happy with what it sounds like, then that is what the song is.

Well, I have to use 3 fingers to play stuff like Parallel Universe (and even then I usually break out during the last parts. 4 minutes of contstant speed are hell.... And some people can do so for way longer)
Hhe doesn't really NEED to get faster. It's not as if RHCP is playing Death Metal or something. And junky... I'm using proper technique (thanks to lessons) and still can't do the things he does...

+2 this is after all a picture :rolleyes: taken at the right moment- if your plucking the A string and the force of impact lands on the E, it's going to look like that; please, whats the big deal?

Yeah, definitly, I know what you mean, I do that sometimes myself, now that I think about it. and Yeah, Gabu, you're probably right... I might be doing the same thing unconsciously...
