Double Bass Looking At Bass Master Pro.. Need Help

Marcus, when I say "similar to the BMP", I mean you'd have the same type of PU combo.

I used the BP100 alone for many years, it wasn't all horrible :hiding:. As just an addition to the Bass Max, for "seasoning", I think it could work OK. Since bobbykokinos already had one, it could be worth a try. At the same time he could find out if maybe the Bass Max was enough by itself.

But since he can return the Fishman, my original suggestion loses some of its point.

I've had a Bass Max, two Full Circles (both went bad), the top of line $800 Schertler then the Bass Master Pro. The BMP was the most natural sounding, most detailed and most feedback resistant of all...right out of the box, with almost no fiddling. I actually run the internal settings to their mid positions (there are a lot of tone and volume adjusters inside the preamp), and use the preamp's external gains at max settings. I get tremendous wood and growl...it seems to find the richness of my DB's, without adding extra color. It's just a magnifying glass for the BEST PARTS of the tone. A really nice trick if you ask me.

I run through Acoustic Image heads and the BMP seems to prefer going through the instrument input, as opposed to direct into the 'return' or amp stage. I've used it from a hybrid DB to very fine carved basses and it always sounds great. I have a few BMPs now on different basses and they always work great (all bought from Bob G.). And he's right, it's easy to file your bridge to get the Bass Max part to fit. Maybe someday I'll try a mic, but my drummer is too loud!

Due to a bad battery, I was forced to try either side of the BMP - the Bass Max side or the Big Double Twin side...it was interesting, I didn't really like either by themselves! It was actually a bit nasty. I guess there's a synergy when you add the two plus the little preamp - 1+1+1 equals about 7 in this case! To date, this is my reference pickup. It's worth several times it's price IMHO, compared to whatever else I've tried. I guess my best comment about it is that since adding it to my DB, I haven't looked for any other pickup.

Awesome.. I cant wait to get my BMP!!! To be honest, Ive heard nothing but good things.. I cant remember one negative thing I heard about it.

Well, I got my BMP yesterday and installed it.. All I really can say right now is WOW. The only previous experience with pickups I had was with the fishman and realist. But there is no doubt, the BMP is light years ahead of both of them.

I'm gigging with it tomorrow night. We'll see how the rest of the band responds to it.

Only draw back: MAN, I gotta watch my intonation.
