Looking for 12" 4ohm speaker for empty small cab?

I've got this empty bass cab from 440 Live cabs lying around and would like to add a 12" 4ohm speaker so I can squeeze the most wattage out of my GK MB200 when playing small gigs. It would be a dedicated one cab micro set up only.
Not looking necessarily for Neo's nor anything over the top expensive either. If nothing else I've got a line on a used 4ohm Eden EX112 that I might end up getting in lieu of rolling the dice on a speaker that may or may not work in this empty cab?

Here are the dimensions for cab, its rear ported btw:

16"W X 15"D X 16"H. • 1.75 CF, Weight, aprox 20 lbs empty, 3" rear ported

The length of the port tube is an important measurement. Without it, you can't determine the port tuning.


Speaker sensitivity will affect max volume more than the Ohm load or max power handling when you're dealing with limited power. You also loose the ability to add a second cab if needed unless you want to wire them series of have a 2ohm stable head.

For a single 12" cab and a 200 watt head, id be looking for something in the 98Db range, not the 93Db range of the Delta12LFC
The box is small for a Delta pro and you don't have the power to reach a Kappalite's full potential. That particular model of Kappalite doesn't have anything above 2000Hz.

I got this pyle speaker from walmart for $25. Not much highs, but it works good for stage monitor or small show volume. I think the sensitivity is 96.5. The amp one top is 250 watts. I have a GK MB 200 on backorder from MF. I go through the PA on almost all our shows. I bypassed the horn in this monitor cabinet because the jack plate said maximum 80 watts. I know that the tweeter is not getting that much, but I think it is probably a cheap piezo.

that might be the one lowendsatifaktion uses in his coffee 112 that looks about the same size as OP's box.

As to 4ohm. That's the least of of your concerns. The difference between 140w and 200w is neglible in the face of sensitivity gaps of 3dB+ and tuneablity.

My 112 is built with the B&C 12CL64. Another DIY cab thread. Loud, Small, and Cheap. 22 pounds that pounds.

The 12PE32, while I'm sure is a great speaker, by its self is a pound away from the completed cab weight. The 12CL64 by far my favorite 12", but its not very forgiving of high port tuning. Close to F's, it responds well but a little bit in either direction and its either Midbass boom or your quickly killing 2nd harmonics

Your cab size would work well with the B&C 12CL64, but with the port length unknown, the results would be unknown. How ever, being a round port, its easy to modify to the desired length.

I would be concerned if ^^^ that's not a pro-audio speaker.

You could run the drivers suggested and you are considering through free win ISD and see what hits closest to your box volume. If they are not in the winISD database and you can find the T/S specs, you can add them in. If the box is bare wood inside, you can add insulation or carpet felt to the walls and make the speaker think it's in a slightly larger box. Speakers do think, ya know ;)

Looks like B&C 12cl64 is the one then. So i definitely should cut the port down to 1 1/4"?

Reason I wanted to originally go with a 4ohm b/c i felt I would I'd get a bit better note articulation and slightly better headroom for clearity, but i guess its not going to be any difference? I have another exact cab with a carvin ps12-8 in it, sound is decent and gets plenty loud for my bar gigs but I wanted a bit more clarity and a better full range tone. Hopefully the b&c will get me there!

I have a Carvin PS12 and a PS15 laying around. They were quite boring speakers, I agree with you. They have both taken some good punishment without complaining however.
