A more fluent six-string player than I advised me that string spacing at the nut would have as much or more of an impact (particularly on the lower frets) on left-hand ease and comfort as would scale length. Whether this holds true for everyone or not, I don't know (hands and how people use them when playing vary in myriad ways), but I'm finding it to be true for me (in exploring six string again, recently).
I've ended up finding a good deal on a used dragonfly 6 string with a 33 inch scale. Does anyone have any experience with dragonfly basses or 33 inch scale 6 strings in general? Should I start a new thread to ask?
No experience with Dragonfly, specifically, but Bass Japan Direct (with whom I have no affiliation) seems to feature them a lot. Here are some videos of the owner with Dragonfly six strings (the first compares the B-strings on 33" and 34" scale 5-string models) that might be of interest:
If you're comfortable with your 34" scale fiver, you'd likely be fine with 34" on a six, provided it hangs comfortably and the reach to the first fret is comparable (which is not to say that you wouldn't dig a 33" scale bass).
I'd take cues from your experience with your P-bass and Momose, re. string spacing (nut and bridge) and neck profile.
As for starting a new thread or not, you can search for existing threads on Dragonfly/Harry's Engineering basses or six strings -- maybe you'll find stuff already posted that helps you with your questions or other players (already subscribed to those threads) of those basses. If you don't find one, you could post a thread asking, specifically, for impressions on 33" scale Dragonfly six-strings (or whatever you like). Up to you.
