Looking for a Bass rig

I much prefer 12" cabs and get by on loud stages with a pair of DRB 112's, a sub and a 3-way. Other great 12" cabs out there as well as 212 cabs. If you need a lot of volume sometimes but can get by without it, I would look at 212 cabs, a pair of them (when needed) horizontally configured. Then drop a good 800w plus amp on top.

"scruffy, what are suggesting is using your b7k with a power amp to feed a bass cab just like you would with a bass head. your b7k would be your feed to the pa."
Yeah I know what you mean, I just meant like what would you recommend to pair with a b7k in terms of cab/power amp. Would a b7k compete with the ampeg/orange and the fender I talked about before ?

As much as I love the SVT7PRO I wouldn't feel really comfortable with one given the amount of problems many have had.
Having said that- mine did perform flawlessly while I had it.
I'd recommend the TH500 Aguilar. GK 700/1001 RBII or MB fusion 500/800 or any GENz BENZ Shuttle/Max 6.2/9.2 GK neo loaded cabs are great for the $$ too.

Fearful, but you won't get much change out of a grand even DIY'ing.

That leaves mic solution. Akg P2 is one of those rare cheap and good things in the world.

See if the ART rack preamps are available, fearful exponent CLPeavey rates them for heavy stuff, cheap and good rocks.

Old amps are likewise cheap and good, if heavy. Everyone is upgrading to new and light.

Between all the cheap and good stuff you might afford the fearful cab after all.

You might like to check out a used GK and whatever cabs it comes with if you want to get rocking before Xmas.

There are some pretty hot tickets on the second hand market at the moment. As I mentioned, I'm not sure what your location is but you should get on the Gumtree and have a sniff. There are a lot of good rig deals hopping about at the moment.

Will have a look at the gk stuff and gumtree cheers lads! What do you guys reckon about the fender tb-600, mate is selling a brand new new one for 800 in mint condition, seen these around the 1400 mark brand new, should I jump on it? I'm pretty happy with how they sound, would 600 watts be enough ? I'm in sydney australia btw

The Fender is a great amp in my opinion. It's loud, articulate and they can actually pull a pretty good grind. I've seen them used live to really great effect, and was actually surprised how good the tone was. You also can't really get them anymore because Fender have put all their eggs into the Rumble basket and I think these amps were discontinued. $800 is not a bad price at all, but it's also not a total steal. If you like the tone I'd say grab it use your other $400 to fund a 2nd hand cab.

"If you want to gig and you're in a loud band you don't want to be going ampless without in-ears. Most engineers won't run a bass signal high through the foldback because they don't own them and cant afford to damage them, so you'll constantly be finding yourself inaudible on stage.

I considered running a Aggie TH pedal and going ampless but didn't because of the volume of the shows I usually play. It's not a good solution for heavy genres.

Where are you at? Who's your main retailer in your area? The true reality is we're not blessed like our US buddies on here. You can't get a stonking rig for $1200AU retail like you can in the states. Buying new I'd look to invest a minimum of $1600 to $2000 if you want to get a rig which will stay with you for a good duration. Investing less will leave you underpowered.

The GK700rbii is a very good amp for what you want to do (I use the 1001) and they can be bought used for a great price. Check Gumtree. You could get your darkglass and run it straight into the Poweramp of the GK for a stupidly good sound. I run amp software into my 1001 and it roars. "

Sorry think I didn't read your entire comment properly before. Would you say the ampeg pf800 would match my style a little more compared to the fender? There's a guy selling one for &
$660, just saw it was Solid state, would it match the fender in terms of clarity/volume? My closest retailer is Allan's/icon music/guitar factory

The PF800 is an entirely different amp to the Fender. It's class D while the Fender is class A, so the difference between the 600w of the Fender and the 800w of the Ampeg shouldn't be a deciding factor. The Ampeg is also a lot more portable so it would be a little less rough on your spine if that's a thing you care about.

It also sounds like an Ampeg in a powerful small package which is why the PF line appeals to a lot of people. If you like the Ampeg sound (and I do) $660 is a pretty good price.

I'd be a little bit cautious though as the PF800 only just came out recently and someone trying to move one for 60% of retail would present me with a little danger signal. If you were going to go for it I'd check it pretty thoroughly, ask a lot of questions and see if it's still under warranty. The PF500 allegedly has a higher than normal failure rate but thus far the PF800 has not had any reported issues.

That Fender amp is a beast. Not great price but not too bad if it's in great shape. Very reliable and VERY powerful n loud.
Beware tho. It's power ' could ' blow out the speakers in almost any cab. As usual just be sensible, use yr ears & it'll be cool.
Get a GOOD 410 or 610 & you'll be set. I think that amp actually puts out more than 600w into 2 ohms irrc.

Should I avoid it and just buy one new and class d better than class A or is it the other way around ?

I will be surprised if it's actually class A. The only class A amps I know of are made for stereo fanatics. It's more likely to be class AB.

Regarding which class is better, neither are inherently better soundwise. Class D amps have some advantages though - with a switched mode power supply (which most of them have) they are much lighter and they are much more efficient so they will use less power and run cooler.

Sorry, of course it's AB. Typo in my last. This is good information here.
I couldn't direct you OP. Those two amps are Apples and Oranges. I'd probably take the Fender just because it's a hybrid but the Ampeg is lighter and theoretically will be more powerful, at least on paper if not in reality.

I'd be looking into used gear first, read reviews, make calls, etc. If there isn't much in your area, maybe try out some new stuff. Then maybe see if you can get something shipped to you. And I wouldn't get a combo, unless its top of the line. And even then I'd still rather have them separate, you can always replace one piece if it dies.
