Looking for a cheaper beater Precision $950 or under.

Looking for a Precision I can buy to use for when I want to play at places where I might feel more comfortable playing a cheaper instrument.

So far the old 2008-2011 Classic Vibe, Matt Freeman signatures, Sire P5, and old Road Worn series.

Other candidates? New or used prices is fine. Looking for the absolute best for buck. The best that could be plausibly had quality wise in this price point

I see Musician's Friend currently has a used Sire P5 for $399. I'd be tempted. I'm sure there are others, Ibanez must have something too?

I swapped it for a b stock emg geezer that didn't come with the plug and play controls. I think it was 60 bucks. I didn't spend much time with the original because I already had the emg and had one in another p bass that I really liked. I should have given it more of a chance. I've heard the new ones have a different voicing to the pickup than the originals anyway.

I'm a little rusty on all the different "levels" of the mij; but I've never met one I didn't like. The quality of the mij Fenders just seem consistently good.
Mine's a '96 "middle of the road" model; Neck says PB-61OR and truss rod adj is at the headstock, nothing on the basswood body - but and it sounds and plays fantastic. Really nice neck profile too.
I haven't looked for a while, but they were popping up fairly regularly when I had them in my Reverb Feed for under $1000.

Agreed. You could even do a few upgrades and still only have $200-300 invested. Great bass for the money.

You can find a used G&L LB-100 or SB-2 easily at that price point if you look. American too.

Just find a cheap import Fender, make sure the neck is good and you're cool with the weight, and if that's all working get it. If the pickup sucks slap a EMG GZR in there.

Nobody ever seems to mention Slick Guitars, designed by guitarist Earl Slick. I have no personal experience or knowledge of these Precision-style basses, but it appears that they are priced below $300. All but one look like they come with a slightly "relic'd" finish, which is not to my taste, but some folks dig it.
