ARION MTE-1 Tubulator​


my arc effects K(lone) needs to be fix rn as there is no sound when i click on the pedal and i have not used it in like 3-5 years so its been off my git board but i wanna try it on bass lol

my MHP 98.6 TS clone that is hyper gainy at like 8 o clock

some of the cool multi band yamaha ODs/dists from the 80s

my current set up is tuner comp Super Oscillo Fuzz (88) tone reaper fuzz super bass fuzz( think muff with oct up) MS-70CDR MXR M80 Sans amp

i play J rock, indie, some metal stuff pop rock etc psyc

ODB is a pedal for Industrial has a fizzy sound..

mte is like ts alternative.

I'd look up the TC Mojomojo

the joyo utimate overdrive is a bass friendly OCD and been getting a lot of love around here. so give it a shot.

i know the mte uses the same chip as the OG 808 so that is why i am leaning that was also my favorite bassist as of late in the J psyc scene used one for years early on

but i'll but i'll check out the recs here there is a blums at GC for 70 heard its awsome and played with it for a bit and yeah lives up to the hype

That's a good one too especially for the price..

I also like the Nobles ODR-1 drive they have a new mini v2

I been buying synths and samplers lately

or Heavier metal style distortions or NIN style effects

The Joyo UD is a great pedal, as you said it's based on a bass friendly OCD. It's more of an over driven fuzz than a mild overdrive. It can be tamed but it can be hard to dial those settings in when the pedal just wants to run rampant fuzz all the time. A fully featured OCD has a bit more control than the Joyo UD. Also the devil graphics may not be appropriate in every playing / gig context.

The Fairfield Barbershop is a great transparent overdrive, the Dam Ezekiel is another great and versatil bass dirt box that can deliver some great mild overdrive (and a lot more if you desire).
The Genzler 4 on the floor and another great option that is loosely based on the Dam Eziekiel (using a different op amp chipset, because the JR335's are so hard to find these days).
However, if this was my choice, I would just go for a Source Audio Aftershock and be done with my search for bass dirt in all forms. It has one of the best tube overdrive options that I have encountered and it's pre-loaded into patch 1 out of the box. Plus you get great under the hood eq options and the ability to re-map the mix & tone knobs to bass / treble and other options too.
The Aftershock literally stopped my quest for bass dirt in it's tracks. It pretty much does it all and exceptionally well.

it's not a good look in a Praise and Worship band....however...looks great in a metal band. Context is everything.
I had a UD for a few years. I swapped it out for a custom build OCD using one of Fuzz dog's kits. It was a slightly better sounding circuit, beterr quality caps with a clearer sound. Then i ditched the OCD clone for Source Audio Aftershock, which has a great OCD engine and pretty much did what i wanted from my old OCD. Like I said earlier, there is no other bass dirt pedal that comes close to an Aftershock, and that's coming for a guy with a drawer full of dirt pedals, many of which I've built, or modded myself.

I have a Maxon Hybrid Bass Driver and a Damnation Audio MBD on their way to me. I can post a head-to-head description, though there is a lot in the way of recordings and clips on YouTube. The MBD certainly gets a lot of love here on Talkbass, but the Maxon is very interesting to me because it seems incredibly controlled and controllable. I intend to push one of them through a Boss OC-5 octave pedal, and when I find a winner, I’ll get a Death By Audio Fuzzwar to mate with it. I like the controlled nature of the Maxon clips I’ e heard, and I like the primal, mid-scooped MBD tones as well. We shall see how they sound to my ear in person. I’ll be pushing them thru a Mesa Subway head, and alternatively, a Source Audio Zio.

The DI 2112 pre amp dual channel is one of the best pre-amp drives you can get on the market. Remember it’s a preamp. It doesn’t have a foot switch on it. I’m talking about the one in pedal form. Not the rack mount. Also anything from tech 21 is great especially like a Sans amp.

You do know a lot about bass OD and Fuzz. I have a least one GMC preset in the SA pedals I run. Listen to the man.

Okay - just took the Maxon Hybrid Bass Driver home and put it through its paces. First impression was, “wow, this thing sounds pretty dang good, it holds the bass frequencies well…”
Second impression, “hmmm… there’s no master volume, there is clean level and drive level… but no summed volume.”
So, regardless of what I think of it, I must either set it at soundcheck and not touch it (which can be fine), or get the level of distortion/drive that I want, and use something downstream to bring the volume back down.

Unity on the clean level knob seems to be around 1:00, and on the driven level as well, provided the Drive control (separate from the drive level control) is not above noon or so. That “primal growl” (my term) at the attack of a note is achievable, but the output level of the pedal is so much higher than the signal before the pedal is engaged that I’m not sure how to manage it without reducing the volume downstream. There’s the bad stuff.

THE GOOD STUFF: If you are willing to use this as a single sound pedal, meaning you don’t vary the settings widely during your set, then you have a controllable 808 circuit with a treble drive control, a bass drive control, AND a clean blend. I did not find that the character of the distortion changed that much with varied settings on the bass and treble controls, but that is a strength for this pedal. Did the pedal ever really shine? Yes.
When I used this pedal to drive an octave pedal (a Boss OC-5 in polyphonic mode) it really turned the Boss from what I expected to be a synthy sort of thing into a doomy, angry symphonic sort of thing. When I added a chorus after the octave - a little EHX Bass Clone - it became positively EPIC. And it’s to do with the controllable, even-handed output from the Maxon, even at near-pegged drive levels.
For me, alone, the Maxon is too fuzzy to be a good low-gain drive. At highest, extreme settings it surpasses fuzz and goes buzzy. But for a soft clipping 808, at all points in between, it is an imminently controllable, well behaved, overdrive distortion unit that should be considered upstream of octaving and modulating pedals. I have an MBD v3 coming to try out for my pedalboard next.

  • resistor 1: removed
  • resistor 3: 8.2kΩ to 10kΩ
  • resistor 7: 47kΩ to 22kΩ (they mentioned on this one that higher resistance increases distortion, lower resistance decreases it)
  • resistor 11: 1.2kΩ to 2kΩ

they experimented with 4 different op-amps (i have no idea what that means)


they literally say: "I randomly selected 8-pin op-amps available at 千石電商 (some random store)"

the only other thing I can see really is they mention changing the clipping diodes, from 1N914 silicon diodes to LEDs (I think is what they say?) they said this was because they prefer the distortion of British-style amps


i picked one up off the bay for $66 looks like i now have the kasyo junrei tone set complete with adding the MTE to my bass board
