looking for a new router!

I have some problem lately with my airport extreme.
The wireless won't work, like right now.
Nothing wireless work... Ipad, Ipod, Iphone, laptop etc...
It happen almost every 2 or 3 days lately and it last about 1 hour.

I can live without internet, but it seem to always happen when I need it
I still have the 3g on the phone of course.

Anyway, I'm looking for a new router and I need suggestion.
I've been reading review since this morning and it's not easy to make a decision

ANy suggestion?

THank you

I did some lengthy research on this in December, and decided on the Netgear WNDR3700.

So far, zero issues with dropped connections on this router. It gives me a solid reliable wireless signal all through my two story house and even on the back porch. When I crank up the wirless transmit power, I can see my signal across the street (100'+ away), but I leave it way down normally. I use it for connecting a couple iPads, a couple Xbox 360's, two desktops, a coupe wireless laptops, and my Droid. The guest wireless is a cool feature that I use for the Xbox 360's.

I've got the predecessor to mj5150's router, the Netgear WNR3500 1gb/s wired, 300mb/s wireless. No problems with it, good signal. D-link... not the best, not the worst. I'd stear clear of linksys, they drop wireless connectivity frequently from my experience.

I'd recommend: Cisco (not linksys by cisco), Netgear, 3com, D-link. In that specific order. Whatever you do, do NOT buy Belkin. The only thing Belkin makes is crap that dies quickly and severely overpriced cables.

The Airport Extreme's antenna is pretty strong. If you really don't get any connectivity, I would run the Airport Configuration Utility and clear up any problem it might report. I doubt your router "died".

Well, that's good that you got one of the exceptions. Though I will not change my opinion of them, given the amount of dead belkin products that I've had to process returns on, DR. No attempt at starting an argument here, but it will take more than an isolated case for me to change my position regarding their products.

It's funny - you read the reviews of every router out there, the #1 complaint about all of them is dropped connections. I have a D-Link (don't remember the model) and I probably have to walk into the office twice a week, power it down and back up when it starts dropping my laptop connection. But it has pretty good range.

I'm probably not doing something right, but I've spent a few hours setting it up and it's as "right" as I can make it. The Linksys I had before it was no better.

I used to have to reset my Linksys wap11 every week. However, the WRT54G I got to replace it has been great. I probably use the wireless about 4 hours a day with no dropouts.

And my physical setup is less than ideal. I have the router in the basement. Preferably you want the router up higher than the computer. I actually have an unused cable to the second floor that I could use.... but it works so well I have no motivation to change it ;)

So you have some suggestions on brands, and hands on experiences. Now you need to analyze how you will use the router as far as where the devices are situated on the area the router is installed. There are a couple different types of antennas on routers as well as the band they broadcast efficiently, so make sure the model you pick suits your network needs.
