Looking for a new strap...

what's out there?
What should I be looking for...?
None of my basses are particularly heavy, but I'd like something with a little padding...
I've entertained the local artisan idea, and have found 2 folks that can fill the bill, but I've come to rely on the wealth of knowledge that TB had to offer...
A bonus is I have a brother-in-law that lives in Nashville and I've planted the seed in his ear as well, knowing Xmas is right around the corner...
I'd like to have leather for sure...leaning toward brown or tannish colour...(it'll be going on a faded sunburst bass), relatively wide and as stated before w/ a bit of soft on the shoulder...added bells and whistles in good taste would be a bonus ie: etching or burning or sequence ala Nudie Suit(jokes)
Point out some of your favorites and why..

Depends on your budget. Walker and Williams makes padded leather straps foraround $25 - certainly decent. But Levy straps are soft and wonderful - I've been gigging the same one for 13 years, and it is still in great shape. Three inches is a good width.

I wish I could get in touch with the local leatherworker that I had make a strap a number of years ago. She made it the width I want, the length I want, with thick fleece padding on the back side. Price was competitive with commercial offerings. It's nice to support local craftspeople if you have them.
