Looking for a specific effect/tone (links included)

Greetings TB land,

So I'm an effects noob looking for a more refined ear for some assistance on this tone I'm looking for.

It is an effect used by Orefo Orakwue on Ernest Ranglin's album "Modern answers to Old Problems". He uses this effect to varying degrees on different tracks, but usually it's pretty subtle.

It sounds almost like an envelope filter of some sort, but really "quacky" and "textured", but less "artificial" sounding than any of the envelope filters that I've heard. Best samples on tracks:

I've been searching through demos of pedals and synths for weeks and cannot find this lovely sound. I even tried emailing Orefo through his website, but never received a response. I would love to find out how I can attain this sound.

If I'm hearing it right (crappy laptop speakers) it sounds like a Rhodes in the last clip.

You could try an octav pedal like the pog before an overdrive?

I'm not sure. Let some one check my work.
