Looking for a specific sound!

To be honest my mind goes bit blank when i try figuring it out, does anyone know how to get a sound like this songs bass?
I don't know if it's compression, some sort of distortion or even the playing style but regardless I'd love that sound if anyone can help :)

To me, it sounds like an enormous amount of compression with the threshold set really low, the ratio set high, and the attack and release times extremely low. Could be some sort of overdrive added as well, but with compression like this it may not be necessary.
I just pulled an old riff up in my DAW and got close to that sound with a single compressor. Experiment with it and see what you can get.

Sounds to me like a mid-rangy type of overdrive. I'm guessing you can get that sound by using either the tech 21 paradriver(boost the mid control) or the xotic bass bb preamp and pare it up with an eq pedal to crank the mids. I'm not quite sure if that'll work, but give it a try. also the song you posted sounded pretty cool. it reminds me of daft punk.

Can that sound be achieve with a compressor? does it work by using compression with a particular overdrive and cranked mids?

I used a compressor that was built into my DAW (Samplitude).
In a studio environment you could get close to that sound by using the parameters I mentioned above and with the addition of some EQ boost in the low-mid to mid-mid frequencies (~400 HZ works good for me).. I didn't use any overdrive in my experiment

I am not much for pedals and stuff, but to my knowledge no compression pedal exists that could give that sound in a live environment. If you were trying to do it live it would probably be a combination of a serious compressor, maybe a limiter, some overdrive, and some careful EQing. Achieving that exact sound live would be a challenge, it seems like something that is more feasible in a studio environment just because of the precise way you can hear the compressor kicking in and letting go. Not to say it isn't possible if you are patient and determined.

If it were me, I would start experimenting with some plug-ins in a DAW. This will help you figure out what effects you need, then the next step would be to go out and find the right pedals.
