Looking for a Spector

The current lower dollar option to get something like a US made, of any era, is to get a Euro. Be patient and find a EuroLX to your liking. They do come up for very good prices, under $2k if you’re patient.

I have yet to handle/play a Korean that feels anything like a US Spector, save Kramer era NS-2As. The Asian imports for sale mass market are…not like US/Euros.
Great point. There was something special about the Kramer era NS-2As.

EMGs/LHZ are the way to go. I have 8 NS basses - USA, Euro, and Korean in both neck thru and bolt-on formats. 4 of them have the LHZ. The other 4 have 18v Haz, SNC Haz clone, KHaz and Czech Haz. The LHZ is a faithful reproduction of the original 9v circuit and it sounds awesome. Benefit is it will fit a lot of places that the full board Haz/Haz clones can't.

Agreed; great price. The ReBops were made in the Czech Republic. The Euro Bolt would be the replacement model for the ReBop I believe. If I wasn't looking for a 5 string, I would try and nab this thing. Especially with a case, this is a great deal.

And while we're on the subject, though OP wants a 4, I'd be all over [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] in Southern California. Seems like a pretty legit posting, and if I read it correctly, it seems shipping is included (though not called out).

That Rebop is right next to me, and has been for sale for a long time, but only on CL. I doubt, and wouldn’t expect them to eat $140 cost to them shipping on a $790 sale.

There’s been a couple Sunday mornings where I’ve considered grabbing it.

this is in my area and I’ve actually tried to reach out to the guy to come check it out /buy but he’s not replied to me at all , but has updated the sale post for over a year now ? Not sure what to think , maybe I rubbed him wrong the way I reached out?

That ReBop 5 looks to have the strings about to fall off the bass side....

Yeah this is very close to me, if I had the room I would grab this one for that price. Even though I prefer neck through construction I bet this bolt on has a snappy fast attack.

I agree, although I picked up a 1998 NS2000/5 last year for a project bass. Maybe it's because it was a very early model, but the neck on it is different than any other NS2000/5 or Legend 5 I've ever played. Aside from not having a volute, it's got the same thick profile as my Euros. I sold my other NS2000/5 shortly after buying this one because I knew this one was special.

I will say this too - the Skyler Acord 5, despite being MIK, is equal or better quality than my Euros and it has the Alex Webster neck profile, which IMHO is the best profile Spector offers on a 5 string. That thing practically plays itself. It's in a completely different league than any other Korean Spector. Gotoh tuners and a USA bridge to boot. The only downside is the preamp, but the LHZ is an easy swap.

So, can you post a link to the EMG pick ups and the preamp you were talking about? I went to the EMG site and got confused.

i’m wondering if it’s better to buy the euro bolt model that comes with Aguilar pick ups and preamp and just take that out and switch it over to whatever EMG ones you mentioned in your earlier post? I found one new for $1800. Figure picks ups and preamp shouldn’t be more than $350 or so.

Did some more looking. Maybe these would be them.

@NYgiant

If you are considering the California sale plus shipping, you should look at Guitar Center in Las Vegas. They have the same 5 string for $1k and their shipping is affordable. And they have a return policy. The ReBop has been there for one month and I played it.

My 2 cents on the ReBop's:
1) I own a ZeBop (dual 35DC's) and it plays as well as my Euro LT (my avatar).
2) I have played two ReBops and I personally do not like the tone of the older TonePump with the EMG passives...I did like the later TonePump with active EMG's in my euro....however
3) The EMG passives themselves sound good. I installed a Lusithand Double NFP in my ZeBop as I am converting that bass to more of a Wal style and it already sorta kills without multi coil pickups yet.
4) I just installed the LHZ-03 into my euro with P/J's and it sounds like I expect from a Spector.

All I am saying is a ReBop is a fantastic value and I recommend trying the LHZ-03 with the EMG passives. Best case, drop in some EMG actives perhaps with the LHZ perhaps.
